WADSWORTH, Ohio — The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) is investigating a fatal officer-involved shooting in the City of Wadsworth. Wadsworth police reported that the man was threatening to commit suicide in a backyard on Durling Drive. Upon arrival, officers heard gunshots. Fire and EMS swiftly responded, and officers attempted to save the man’s life, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. Many people are going to ask why there is no video of the actual shooting and we went ahead and asked the police about his as well. They said the following" There were four Wadsworth Police officers who made the initial approach to the residence. Two of the four initial responding officers were wearing body-worn cameras. The Wadsworth Police Department uses a ‘camera pool’ system and has sixteen (16) cameras dedicated to patrol use. These cameras are used in rotation by our officers to allow for both effective use during normal shifts and sufficient time to recharge and download video. On the day of the incident in question, nearly the entire Wadsworth Police Department patrol division was on duty for shifts or special assignments related to the Blue Tip Parade and Festival. At the time this call came out over the radio following the ‘All Units’ alert tones, many officers had completed their shift or detail were preparing to go home and had already docked their body-worn cameras. All available personnel responded immediately to the call.
