Police Bodycam Footage Your Boat Sinks While Being Arrested For Partying Florida Fish and Wildlife Officers were on water patrol in their agency-issued vessel at Jewfish Key/Intracoastal Waterway in Manatee County when they observed a vessel with three males and two females on board traveling southwestward from the sandbar. The weather conditions were ideal, with winds around 5 mph, clear to partly sunny skies, and minimal wave action. The vessel did not display any safety check decals, and the officers noticed the original operator, wearing a light-colored long sleeve shirt, and a shirtless occupant switching control of the vessel before they initiated the stop with their blue emergency lights. The two subjects again switched control of the vessel as the officers approached. As they approached the vessel, the officers observed several empty alcoholic beverage containers on board. When the lead officer informed the operator of the vessel safety inspection, the operator appeared unsteady even while seated and had to steady himself by holding the steering wheel while retrieving the paper vessel registration amidst the empty containers. He provided the registration after some effort and produced only two life jackets for the five people on board. He then blew a whistle in an exaggerated manner when asked for a sound-producing device. The operator struggled to retrieve his ID, appearing unsteady and fumbling with his wallet. When asked if he had consumed alcohol, he admitted to drinking "a couple of beers." After checking his eyes, the lead officer asked him to put on a life jacket and perform Standardized Field Sobriety Tasks (SFSTs) on their vessel. Although he initially refused, he eventually agreed when informed that failure to comply could result in arrest for Boating Under the Influence (BUI). The officers offered a ride back to the North Coquina Boat Ramp to the two female occupants, while the two male occupants stayed with the vessel awaiting retrieval arrangements. During the transport, the operator exhibited extreme mood swings, alternating between respectful and derogatory comments towards the officers. Upon arrival at the North Coquina Boat Ramp, the two female occupants disembarked, and the officers proceeded to the USCG Cortez Station. The operator was then transported to Manatee County Jail. At the jail, Officer Davidson reported that the operator had soiled himself and refused the "Implied Consent Warning for Breath (BUI)" by plugging his ears. Charges: The operator was booked into Manatee County Jail for the following criminal violations: Florida Statute 327.35(1)(a): Boating Under the Influence with Normal Faculties Impaired. Florida Statute 327.359(5): BUI, Refusal to Submit to 2nd or Subsequent Test (Breath Test). Florida Statute 843.02: Resisting Without Violence.
