Allenstown, New Hampshire DATES: 1985 and 2000 STORY: In November 1985, a hunter in Bear Brook State Park in New Hampshire found a barrel. Inside were the remains of a woman and a young girl. They were murdered. They were unidentified. In 2000 — a second barrel was found nearby. Inside: two more young girls. All four had been murdered and placed in the barrels. For decades — no names. No identities. No suspect. In 2019, forensic genealogy identified the adult woman as Marlyse Elizabeth Honeychurch, killed in approximately 1977. Her daughters Lisa and Marie were identified alongside her. The fourth victim — a young girl determined to be unrelated to the others, now called "Doe" — remains unidentified as of 2025. The prime suspect is Terry Peder Rasmussen — a serial killer known as the Chameleon Killer who operated under at least six different names. He was convicted of another murder, died in prison in 2010. DNA has linked him to the Bear Brook murders. He died before he could be charged. The fourth victim — the unrelated child — has still never been named. She was between two and four years old. TONE: The forest. The barrels. The patience of decades. Four people whose names the world did not know. Then forensic genealogy — and a suspect who died before justice could reach him. The unidentified child at the end must land with absolute weight. She was between two and four years old. SILENCE AFTER: "A barrel." / "Then a second barrel." / "Four murdered people. No names." / "He died before he could be charged." / "She was between two and four years old."
