It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 2:51 AM on September 2, 2024, Officer Steven DeJesus from the Township of Union Police noticed a white 2023 Hyundai that seemed broken down on Morris Avenue near Stuyvesant Avenue. He pulled the car over after seeing vomit outside the vehicle. When he approached, he spoke with the driver, who was later identified as Fiorella. While talking to her, Officer DeJesus saw signs that she might be drunk. Fiorella told him she was having a rough night because her boyfriend was cheating on her. She also admitted to drinking at Kanela’s, a club in Elizabeth, New Jersey. When asked for her license, she couldn’t give all the documents required. The officer called for backup and, suspecting she might be impaired, asked Fiorella to step out of the car to do field sobriety tests. He started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test, then moved to the Walk and Turn test. During the walk test, Fiorella failed to keep her heels touching and took improper turns. The last test was the One Leg Stand. She failed again, not raising her foot correctly and putting it down early. Because of her signs of impairment and her poor performance on the tests, Fiorella was under arrest for driving while drunk. Her car was impounded for at least 12 hours, as required by John’s Law. She was taken to the police car, and a search of her vehicle found an open container and a bottle of pills. She was then taken to the police station for processing. At the station, Fiorella was read her rights for motor vehicle operators. She said she would give breath samples, which showed her BAC was 0.07%. Officer DeJesus also gave her tickets for driving under the influence, reckless driving, careless driving, not having her driver’s license, registration, or insurance card, and for the open container.
