On April 27, 2025, the California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a report from a Los Angeles Fire Department Station of a street takeover forming at Whittier Boulevard and Eastern Avenue in Los Angeles, California. A CHP officer arrived on scene and observed a Dodge Charger performing donuts in the intersection. When the officer attempted a traffic stop, the driver fled at high speed, initiating a reckless police pursuit through Los Angeles city streets. During the chase, LAPD airship aerial surveillance took over tracking the fleeing vehicle from above while ground units continued pursuit. After approximately 30 minutes, ground units disengaged for safety reasons, while the LAPD helicopter maintained visual contact with the suspect vehicle. The pursuit ended beneath the Interstate 110 Santa Monica Freeway overpass at 18th Street and Flower Street, where the driver exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The suspect attempted to hide inside an electrical utility box but was quickly located and taken into custody by Los Angeles Police Department officers. Officers later confirmed the suspect’s connection to the Dodge Charger after recovering the vehicle’s key fob from his pocket. The driver was identified as Jesus Hernandez and was arrested and booked at the LAPD 77th Street Division on the following charges: 245(c) PC – Assault with a Deadly Weapon (No Firearm) on a Peace Officer / Likely Great Bodily Injury 2800.2 VC – Evading a Peace Officer with Wanton Disregard for Safety 2800.4 VC – Evading a Peace Officer, Wrong Side of Median 23109(c) VC – Exhibition of Speed #policechase #police #chp #cops #california #charger
