CASE SUMMARY On June 8, 2025, a routine traffic stop in Naples, Florida escalated after a woman claimed she was a “state national” and therefore exempt from driver licensing and traffic laws. During the encounter, she questioned the officer’s authority, cited so-called “right to travel” arguments, and stated she was not “contracted” with law enforcement. Police bodycam footage captures the interaction as officers attempt to explain lawful requirements and confirm procedure. The situation becomes increasingly tense as the subject refuses to comply with lawful commands.
