It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: On February 18, 2024, around 1:43 in the morning, Deputy Christopher Olin from the Whitman County Sheriff’s Office noticed a 2017 Chevrolet Sonic failing to stop at a stop sign on Stadium Way. He drove closer and pulled the vehicle over near Valley Road on Providence Court. The driver turned out to be 21-year-old Elenor. She told the Deputy she was taking her friends home from the bar. While talking to her, the Deputy smelled alcohol and saw signs of impairment. When asked how much she had to drink, Elenor initially denied drinking any alcohol. But after instructing her to step out of the car, she admitted to having one drink at Zeppoz around midnight. Suspicious of impairment, the Deputy asked her to perform field sobriety tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN). During this test, the Deputy saw four out of six clues pointing to impairment. The second test was the Walk and Turn. Elenor struggled to touch heel to toe, made wrong turns, and took too many or too few steps. The last test was the One Leg Stand. She failed to lift her foot properly and didn’t look at it during the entire test. Afterward, Elenor was offered a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT). The test results showed her blood alcohol content (BAC) was 0.132%. Once she saw the results, she finally confessed to drinking a double shot after her shift ended at 11:30 PM. Considering her traffic violation, the smell of alcohol, her poor performance on the tests, and the PBT results, she was placed under arrest for DUI. Deputy Olin took her first to the Pullman Police Department for booking. There, she asked to speak with a lawyer. Afterward, she agreed to take breath tests. The first results showed a BAC of 0.128. The second tests gave similar readings of 0.128 BAC. After the tests, she was taken to the Whitman County Jail.
