Two men suspected in two armed robberies on both sides of Volusia County are in custody after Volusia County sheriff’s deputies spotted their vehicle Wednesday evening and caught up with the fleeing suspects. This morning, 33-year-old Antonio Harris (DOB 12/20/1984) and 27-year-old Alexis Neal (DOB 6/3/1990), both of Daytona Beach, are being held without bond in the Volusia County Branch Jail, facing numerous charges including robbery with a firearm. Deputies responded to the first robbery shortly after 4 p.m. in the Daytona Beach area. The victim said he was working on a house on the 1200 block of Granada Avenue when a burgundy Nissan Altima pulled up to him, and a passenger got out, pointed a gun at him and then demanded his wallet, money and cell phone. He said the suspect had a distinct tattoo of a cross between his eyes. While deputies were searching for the suspect vehicle, a second call came in about another armed robbery involving the same vehicle description. This one occurred just after 6 p.m. on the 400 block of Main Street in the city of Lake Helen. Soon after, a deputy spotted the suspect vehicle traveling northbound at 88 mph in a 55 mph zone on Prevatt Avenue. A deputy at State Road 44 and Prevatt deployed stop sticks, but the vehicle avoided them and fled east on S.R. 44, where another deputy deployed another stop stick and got a hit on one tire. The tire disintegrated, but the vehicle kept fleeing on three tires and a rim. A bag of heroin was tossed from the vehicle as it fled. Witnesses also called in to report the driver threw a handgun out the window, and a mask was also discovered in the road. The suspects ultimately bailed out of the car at the Malibu Condominiums at 1701 S. Atlantic Ave., where they were captured shortly thereafter. The tossed handgun was also recovered and determined to be stolen out of Holly Hill. At this time, Harris is charged with aggravated fleeing and attempting to elude law enforcement, possession of cannabis with intent to sell, possession of heroin, possession of schedule IV narcotics, grand theft firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Neal (who has a tattoo of a cross between his eyes as described by the first victim) is charged with possession of heroin, grand theft firearm, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. Additional charges in the initial robbery are pending. It was determined both suspects are convicted felons who were recently released from prison. Harris was convicted of robbery with a firearm, and Neal was convicted of carjacking with a firearm. Because the Lake Helen robbery occurred within city limits, the Lake Helen Police Department charged each Harris and Neal with robbery with a firearm.
