On January 26, 2025, 48-year-old Jeremiah Bailey, who was believed to be armed and dangerous, engaged in a series of violent incidents reported to Tampa Police starting at 8:35 PM. Bailey struck multiple pedestrians with his car across several South Tampa locations, injuring three and killing one. None of the victims were known to Bailey. Bailey had an extensive criminal history, including charges of Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer, Battery on an EMT, and Aggravated Battery with a Deadly Weapon. He was released from Florida State Prison in October 2022. The events began with a parking lot dispute at a Dollar General store, where Bailey intentionally blocked 47-year-old Eric Archield’s vehicle. After a verbal argument, Bailey moved his car, but later followed Archield to a friend’s residence near W. Meadow Street and S. MacDill Avenue. There, Bailey struck Archield with his car. Archield’s friend intervened by firing a gun to stop Bailey, who then fled. Archield sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. Bailey’s erratic behavior continued as he drove northbound on MacDill Avenue. Witnesses observed him near the Mobil Gas Station at the 6100 block of MacDill, where he abruptly performed a U-turn and intentionally struck 43-year-old Jesse Rickett, causing severe head injuries. Rickett was hospitalized and remains in critical but stable condition. Bailey then fatally struck an adult Hispanic male walking in the 5800 block of Interbay Boulevard. Police are working to confirm the man’s identity and notify his family. Shortly after, a Tampa police officer spotted Bailey’s white Honda on Wyoming Avenue, where Bailey was removing a bicycle from his trunk. When ordered to stop, Bailey fled at high speed. Before officers could locate him again, Bailey struck 41-year-old Timothy Harden near West Shore Boulevard and Lemon Street as he crossed the street with his wife, who was uninjured. Harden was taken to the hospital and was conscious and alert. Police located Bailey’s car returning to the area and initiated a pursuit onto I-275. Officers performed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver to stop the vehicle. When Bailey failed to comply with commands and appeared to reach for something, officers fired, fatally wounding him. Bailey was pronounced dead at the scene. No firearm was found in his possession or vehicle, though searches are ongoing. #TampaNews #BreakingNews #CrimeReport #TampaPolice #VehicularHomicide #PublicSafety #JeremiahBailey #FloridaNews #PolicePursuit #TragicEvents #LocalNews #CrimeInTampa #HomicideInvestigation #FloridaCrime #CommunityAlert
