Police K9 bodycam from Los Angeles: a wanted suspect runs from LAPD officers in the middle of the night, and the police K9 finds him hiding inside a plant nursery. This police K9 bodycam footage of a K9 apprehension was released by the Los Angeles Police Department as Critical Incident Community Briefing NRF032-26 (West Valley Area K-9 Contact). On July 31, 2026, at about 3:45 AM, a woman called 911: her sister's ex-partner was outside the house on Cohasset Street in the West Valley, violating a restraining order. West Valley Division patrol officers spotted a man matching the description, later identified as 39-year-old Santos Fonsecca, and he immediately ran. Officers set up a perimeter and called in LAPD Metropolitan Division K9. Before the search, K9 handlers broadcast surrender warnings in English and Spanish over the PA system: come out with your hands raised, or a police dog will be used to find you. He did not come out. Officers and the K9 went over a fence into a plant nursery on Saticoy Street. The dog found him under a tarp between the plant tables; you can hear him yelling for help as the handler calls the dog off with the command "Platz." Officers ordered him to show his hands and stay still, and a second officer came over the fence to help. Officers cuffed him and called for medical. OUTCOME: Fonsecca was treated at the scene by LAFD, taken to a hospital, cleared and booked for felony stalking, then admitted to a hospital later that night. On August 4, 2026, the Los Angeles County District Attorney filed one count of attempted murder, one count of stalking, one count of criminal threats and four counts of violating a protective order. A knife was recovered as evidence. No officers or community members were injured. Because the K9 contact required hospitalization, LAPD Force Investigation Division is reviewing it. Charges are allegations until proven in court.
