Police accountability has changed — but maybe not in the way most people think. Cameras didn’t guarantee justice. YouTube didn’t guarantee discipline. And viral outrage didn’t suddenly make criminal prosecutions common. What changed was something more fundamental: who can create evidence, who can publish it, who can examine the records — and who gets to keep asking what happened next. In this documentary, Thin Blue Lies traces that change from the Rodney King recording in 1991 through Walter Scott, Darnella Frazier, Phillip Turner, body-camera research, civilian journalism, public-records investigations, the Phoenix traffic-stop case, and the extraordinary collapse of the Trinidad, Texas Police Department. Along the way, we examine a harder question: Are police actually being held accountable more often — or are we simply getting better at seeing, documenting, and investigating what happens? The evidence complicates the easy answer. Video can substantiate a complaint. It can also exonerate an officer. A bodycam can matter. So can dispatch logs, court filings, Taser downloads, vehicle-location records, licensing records, complaint files, and public records. Because sometimes the camera isn’t the investigation. It’s the beginning of the investigation. And maybe the biggest change of all is this: Police haven’t lost control of policing. But they have lost something they once had much more of — control of the story. 📄 Free Police Accountability Toolkit: https://www.thinblueliesmedia.com/resources 📄 Story tips, resources & support: https://www.thinblueliesmedia.com Submit police accountability tips, bodycam footage, public records, court documents, and local story leads. 👕 Thin Blue Lies Merch: youtube.com/@thinblueliesmedia/store TAKE ACTION If you see an encounter that raises questions, keep your response factual and lawful.
