The Albuquerque Police Department released new bodycam video on Wednesday of the first officer-involved shooting of 2025, an incident at an apartment complex where a sergeant was shot and injured, and the suspect killed. On January 24, 2025, at approximately 1:14 a.m., APD responded to a 911 call from a resident at the Tesota Morningside apartment complex. The caller reported that an unknown man had broken the window of his and his pregnant wife's apartment. "He said, 'I'm going to shoot you and your pregnant wife if you don't let me in now,'" the resident told officers in bodycam footage. The suspect, identified as 23-year-old Anthony James Williams, had been questioned by police the previous night for alarming his neighbors. Officers later found Williams elsewhere in the complex and attempted to detain him, informing him he was not free to leave. Bodycam footage captures Williams telling officers, "Don't touch me. Don't touch me," before reaching into his jacket for a handgun. A shootout ensued, and both Williams and Sergeant Brandon Watts went down. Watts radioed that he had been hit in the left hip. An officer quickly applied a tourniquet, and within two and a half minutes of being shot, Watts was back on his feet, giving commands and instructing officers to take cover as Williams lay on the ground, moaning. Williams was pronounced dead at the scene. During the exchange of gunfire, a resident in a nearby apartment was also struck. They were treated and released the following morning. Watts is still recovering from his injury and has not yet returned to duty, according to APD. 0:00 - Preview 0:08 - Description of events 0:32 - Officer Bodycam 1:28 - Shooting #Albuquerque #APD #PoliceShooting #OfficerInvolvedShooting #BreakingNews #CrimeNews #NewMexico #GunViolence #SelfDefense #LawEnforcement #PublicSafety #TesotaMorningside #OfficerDown #PoliceResponse #CrimeReport Disclaimer: The following content contains graphic scenes of violence that may be disturbing to some viewers.
