It sat far past the stop line at SR 36 and Monmouth Road. He swung around and tailed it west on SR 36. The driver weaved across lanes. Spark hit his lights for a stop. He approached the Jeep and met driver Amber Poppe. Alcohol scent hit him hard. He saw clear signs of drunk driving. Amber said she left Jack’s in Long Branch for home. She owned up to two drinks that night. Suspicious, he had her step out for sobriety tests. First came the Walk and Turn. Amber missed heel-to-toe steps. She turned wrong and waved her arms. Next was One Leg Stand. Her foot dropped too soon. She skipped counts and failed to hold it up right. Erratic drive, booze smell, her admission, and botched tests sealed it. Spark arrested Amber for DUI. He impounded her Jeep for 12 hours under John’s Law. Then he drove her to the station. There, he read the motor vehicle statement. She agreed to breath tests. Sergeant Robert Knott ran the Alcotest. Results showed 0.185% BAC—twice the 0.08% limit. Processing done, her boyfriend took her home after signing the liability warning.
