On September 8, 2025, Rio Rancho Police Officer Benavidez observed the driver of a red Porsche Carrera fail to maintain its lane and repeatedly drive over the center dotted line. He initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle, which was being driven by a 43-year-old woman. The woman initially denied consuming alcohol. However, she was asked to step out the vehicle in order to perform standardized field sobriety tests. At the conclusion of the tests, she admitted to consuming two alcoholic beverages at dinner and she was placed under arrest. At the police station, she provided two breath samples, which both registered 0.18% BAC. She was charged with Aggravated Driving While Under the Influence and Careless Driving. Her case is still open and all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
