In the early morning hours of April 7, 2022, officers with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a DUI crash on Barnett Shoals Road near Security Circle in Athens, Georgia. This full-length police bodycam footage documents the entire DUI investigation — from the crash scene and fire department extraction to questioning, arrest, breath testing, hospital clearance, and booking at the Clarke County Jail. Officer Joshua Santos arrived to find a 2012 Nissan Rogue that had collided with a utility pole. The Athens-Clarke County Fire Department was already on scene working to free a trapped female occupant later identified as 21-year-old Ansley Ellis. According to officers, there was suspicion that the driver moved to the passenger seat following the crash. After being removed from the vehicle, Ellis denied driving and admitted to drinking earlier at Bar South in downtown Athens. Due to visible signs of impairment, she was arrested for DUI without field sobriety testing. A breath test later revealed a blood alcohol concentration nearly three times the legal limit. After receiving medical clearance at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center, she was transported to jail and issued multiple summonses related to the incident. This 2-hour unedited police bodycam video provides full context of the DUI crash investigation and arrest. This footage is shared for news reporting, educational, and public interest purposes.
