ORLANDO, FL – At 12:56PM on January 6th, 2020, a Belle Isle Police Officer observed a Ford SUV passing other vehicles in a no passing zone near the intersection of Conway Road on Hoffner Ave. The officer observed the vehicle occupy both lanes on Conway Road heading northbound which resulted in another driver needing to take immediate action to avoid an accident. The officer then pulled over the vehicle in an elementary school parking lot and approached the suspect. Upon making contact with the suspect, the officer noticed she had red, glassy eyes and that her speech was slurred. The officer asked the suspect to step out of the vehicle whereupon he noticed the odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from her. The suspect consented to participating in field sobriety tests to determine her ability to operate a motor vehicle. The suspect denied having any medical or physical issues that would prevent her from taking the tests. During the horizontal gaze nystagmus test, the suspect displayed orbital sway throughout the exercise, lack of smooth pursuit in both eyes, and distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation in both eyes. For the walk-and-turn test, the suspect took more than nine steps in her first set of steps and did not attempt the second set. The suspect further lost balance several times which caused her right and left foot to come off the line while performing the test. For the one leg stand test, the suspect had to put her foot down as she was unable to balance and eventually stopped the test before 30 seconds had passed. The suspect was then arrested for DUI and taken to the Orange County Sheriff’s Office DUI Testing Center for further processing.
