Deputy incident report: On May 6, 2024, at approximately 0330 hrs, Coffee E-911, to all Coffee County units that Lowndes County was in pursuit of a vehicle with speeds up to 120 mph coming North Bound on Hwy 221 that was coming into Atkinson County and possibly Coffee County. The tag registration came back to an address on Peachtree St in the City of Douglas. The pursuit made it through Atkinson County and continued into Coffee County. One of the Supervisors with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office attempted spike strips but that was unsuccessful at the Atkinson/Coffee Line. The vehicle continued to flee North into the City Limits of Douglas. The other supervisor on shift with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office got behind the fleeing vehicle. The vehicle was going into oncoming traffic in the opposite lanes and was driving recklessly at speeds of over 100 mph. At the City Limits of Douglas a supervisor with Douglas Police Department attempted spike strips but the vehicle went around them. After another failed attempt with the spike strips the supervisor with the Coffee County Sheriff's Office ended the pursuit using the PIT maneuver at the intersection of Bowen's Mill Hwy and 441 South. The PIT maneuver was successful and the vehicle crashed into a crosswalk pole. All four occupants surrendered without further incident. The vehicle was stolen out of the City of Douglas the night before and the occupants had stolen another tag and put it on the stolen vehicle before they left to go to Valdosta/Lowndes County. The driver and other occupants were transported back to Lowndes County by Lowndes County Deputies.
