Description

This bodycam footage captures a critical moment in the de-escalation of the Yokeen Lunford arrest. After a violent struggle, an Albuquerque police officer directly asks the now-handcuffed suspect if he intends to continue fighting, forcing a verbal confirmation of compliance before proceeding with post-arrest procedures.

The clip begins with the officer setting clear expectations for the next step. "So if I pull you out of the car now, are you gonna fight with us?" he asks directly. This question, captured on bodycam, is a standard procedural step to ensure officer safety and gauge the suspect's current state of mind after a physical altercation.

Yokeen Lunford, whose demeanor has completely shifted since the initial struggle, emphatically denies any intention of further resistance. "I'm not gonna fight at all, bro. Ain't no fight at all, bro," he insists. "That's what I'm telling y'all." This statement stands in stark contrast to his earlier actions where he physically fought with officers.

With the suspect's verbal confirmation of compliance, the officer's attention shifts to the logistical next steps, turning to his supervisor to discuss the other three detainees: "Um, Sarge, do you want to keep the other 3 here?" The response confirms they will all be receiving a summons, officially separating their fate from the felony charges Lunford faces.

This conversation was recorded on January 21, 2025, after Yokeen Lunford had been physically subdued and handcuffed. The exchange is a textbook example of how officers de-escalate and control a scene after a use-of-force incident has occurred.

This video provides a valuable look at the verbal tactics police use to secure a scene and ensure a suspect's compliance, showcasing the shift from physical control to verbal commands.
