Description

REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures the tense moment when officers inform a drug trafficking suspect of the felony charges following a major methamphetamine and cocaine seizure in La Crosse. This bodycam video documents the suspect's reaction to learning the serious consequences while officers coordinate the complex investigation behind the scenes.

In this police bodycam footage at timestamp 23:20, a suspect directly questions officers about their legal situation: "What am I being arrested for? What are my charges?" This straightforward inquiry, captured on the bodycam, demonstrates the reality-setting moment when suspects first learn their official charges.

The officer responds with equal directness: "Possession of meth and possession of cocaine." When the suspect seeks clarification about quantity—"How much?"—the officer emphasizes the severity regardless of amount: "A felony either way, so-" adding "It's a rock or a weight. I don't know." This exchange, recorded on police bodycam, establishes the serious nature of the charges while suggesting the officer may not be fully briefed on the specific quantities recovered.

The footage captures the behind-the-scenes coordination as officers communicate with supervisors: "Who's the OIC of investigations? Williams will be. Brooke Bataska, the sergeant's requesting a phone call. She's on the phone for him." This administrative discussion, documented on bodycam, reveals the multi-level response to major drug trafficking arrests requiring investigative division involvement.

The communication continues with radio exchanges: "128, put it through to my squad cell and I'll let him talk," followed by clarification about who's calling: "Quick task. Bataska, the city sergeant is trying to get ahold of the OIC of this." An officer then makes an informal assessment of the evidence: "Hey mom, a good amount of meth, it looked like... I'd assume it's meth." This casual characterization, captured on bodycam, suggests significant quantity justifying the felony-level charges.

According to police reports, this February 3, 2023 incident resulted in the seizure of 56.4 grams of methamphetamine, 7.5 grams of cocaine, and 5.3 grams of marijuana during the arrest of 43-year-old Drae Shaun Broadnax, who fled from a high-risk traffic stop arranged after an inmate informant provided information about his daily half-pound methamphetamine distribution.

This police bodycam footage highlights both the direct communication of charges to suspects and the complex coordination required between patrol officers, sergeants, and investigative divisions during major drug trafficking arrests.
