Description

REAL POLICE BODYCAM footage captures a tense interaction with a distressed man who alternates between demanding medical help and refusing to exit his vehicle. This bodycam video documents the challenging early moments of an incident that began with reports of a man screaming with his pants down in a mall parking lot.

In this police bodycam footage from August 15, 2022, Joliet police officers encounter 25-year-old Jeffrey Hlavatovic near the Cinemark theater at Louis Joliet Mall around 1:00 a.m. The officer initiates the interaction by requesting emergency medical services: "I got a 52 coming. I got a... I got an ambulance coming." This statement, captured on the bodycam, suggests officers initially recognized potential medical or psychological concerns.

Hlavatovic responds with immediate suspicion: "Are you serious? You're lying to me." The officer directs him to exit the vehicle: "Come... No, come out of the car." Hlavatovic then declares: "I need an ambulance right now," confirming the request for medical assistance while remaining in his vehicle.

As the officer continues instructing him to exit—"Come out of the car. Turn off"—Hlavatovic makes a serious accusation: "Do not touch me again. You assaulted me." This allegation, recorded on police bodycam, establishes an adversarial tone early in the encounter. He follows with unusual commands to the officer: "Turn. Turn. Do not look me in the eyes." He then repeatedly questions the officer's identity: "Who are you? Who are you?"

The interaction continues with the officer maintaining the directive: "Come out of the car," while Hlavatovic expresses fear: "I'm afraid. I'm not going near you." He again asks, "Where's the ambulance?" despite officers having already confirmed one was en route. The directive to exit continues: "Come out of the car," with Hlavatovic responding, "Do not touch me. I'm taking a picture." This statement is repeated multiple times: "Come out of the car. I'm taking a picture. Come out of the car. I'm taking a picture of you."

After some unclear statements, the interaction concludes with the officer identifying himself: "Officer Lumbergh," and asking, "Do you want to see an ambulance or not?" to which Hlavatovic confirms: "I need one right now."

According to police reports, this interaction occurred after Hlavatovic was seen driving recklessly in circles at high speed in the mall parking lot, following initial reports of him screaming with his pants down. The encounter eventually escalated to a physical removal from the vehicle after his continued refusal to exit, resulting in charges of obstructing/resisting a peace officer and reckless driving.

This police bodycam footage highlights the complex challenges officers face when dealing with individuals exhibiting erratic behavior who simultaneously request help while refusing to comply with basic safety instructions.
