Description

A January 2025 school bus ride in Hartland, Wisconsin ended with 27 children running from the bus and their 73-year-old driver in custody.

According to investigators, Walter was charged with Operating While Intoxicated and 28 counts of Second-Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety after students reported panic, missed stops, and erratic driving. Officers documented slurred speech, glassy eyes, balance issues, and multiple clues during field sobriety testing.

He has denied being intoxicated.

As with all criminal cases, the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
