Sergeant Justin Tracy with the Ottabon Police Department responded to the parking lot of Acme at 100E Black Horse Pike on a report of a female who was passed out behind the wheel. He arrived on scene led towards the vehicle by witnesses. He made contact with a female sitting in the driver's seat of a silver 2023 Kia and she appeared to be passed out. An open container of an alcoholic beverage was visible in plain sight on the front passenger seat. >> Ma'am, >> hello. Sergeant Tracy awakened the female and she was eventually identified as Erica as he started speaking with Erica. Sergeant Tracy detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Erica was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. >> They drove right by the driveway. 7 clear. >> Charlie, >> hello. >> You all right? >> Yeah. >> Can you look at me? >> Yeah. >> What's going on? >> None. >> Well, I'm Justin with the Autobon, please. That's how you're going to stand. Okay. All right. I'm going to check your eyes. Keep your head still and follow the >> The first exercise was the horizontal gaze nestagmus HGN test. The second exercise was the walk and turn test. During the walk and turn test, Erica did not touch heel to toe on each step and failed to follow instructions. After she continued to be uncooperative, Sergeant Tracy eventually terminated the test and placed her under arrest for operating under the influence. Follow the top of my pen with your eyes. Okay? Don't move anywhere. That that's the starting position. Okay? So, you're going to be in that position. I'm going to explain the instructions to you and then we'll conduct the test. Okay? So, left foot, right foot in front, hands down by your side. Okay? >> You may uh be in that position now, please. >> Right foot. So it's going to be your left foot down, your right foot like in front, hands down by your side. That is what's called the starting position. >> So I need your right foot in front of your left foot. All right. Remember this is your line. >> Yes. >> All right. Keep this position until I tell you to begin. Do not start to walk until to told to do so. When I tell you to start, take nine heel to toe steps. Turn and take nine heel to toe steps back. When you turn, keep the front of your of your foot on the line and turn by taking a series of small steps with the other foot. I'll demonstrate for you. Okay? So, you're going to keep hands down by your side. Go all the way up to nine steps. Once you hit nine small choppy steps and then you're going to continue and take and take nine steps. When I tell you to start, raise one leg, either leg approximately 6 in off the ground, foot pointed out. So, either leg you want to pick. Okay? >> One leg up, foot pointed out. Okay? While holding that position, count out loud in the following manner. 1,00 1,002 and so on. Keep your arms at your side at all times and keep watching the race foot. After she continued to be uncooperative, Sergeant Tracy eventually terminated the test and placed her under arrest for operating under the influence because she was in physical control of the vehicle. After the officers finished processing her, Erica was released to a sober adult pending her court appearance. Erica was later arrested for possession in Bington, MJ on February 22nd, 2025.
