Hello, I'm Sergeant Tim Rich from Wilshire Police Drone Unit. Worshshire Police started using drones back in 2017 and provide aerial support for a large range of policing situations and incidents. These incidents can include searching for missing people, suspects, and vehicles. But can also be used for public safety overwatch for larger events such as football matches and music events. Our pilots work 24 hours a day. Uh, and the drones that we use can fly in a variety of different weather conditions. We also have the capability of surveying crime scenes and scenes of road traffic collisions to ensure that we achieve the best video evidence that we can um, of a particular scene for investigations. Although we are technically classed as state aircraft, we do follow and abide by the rules set out by the civil aviation authority. We are lucky if in Wiltshire to be one of the few forces to have attained a RAE or recognized assessment entity which allows us to train and develop our pilots within the force. All of our pilots do an initial two-week course which includes the general visual line of sight or GVC certificate. They will then go away and gain some experience and increase their hours of flying. They will then return to conduct some nightflight training uh and conversion onto larger platforms. This ensures that we are doing the best that we can to provide a safe flight for the community.
