Um, just going to buy cameras on recording the stop. Can I have your license for street insurance? >> Do you guys live here? >> I live in right there. Yeah. >> Where's right there? >> The club tower. >> The channel club tower. So, why did you pull in here? >> I saw you. >> We saw you guys coming. >> Oh, gotcha. Okay. >> Let me just pull out off the road. >> You mean you tried to hide? That's what you mean. >> No, we we just saw you coming. >> Okay, gotcha. That's why you shut off your lights, too, right? You pulled up right behind me. So, >> all right. Thank you. >> Around 12:52 a.m. on September 3rd, 2024, patrolman Matthew Gmbiski with the Mammoth Beach Police Department was on patrol on Ocean Avenue, and he observed a red 2023 Hyundai Atantra speeding 54 m in a 35 mph zone. As followed the vehicle, he observed the driver attempting to hide from him by pulling into a stranger's driveway on Beach Avenue and turning off her lights. Patrolman Gilmbi activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop in the driveway and made contact with the driver who was identified as Courtney Lo Gleasi. >> Actually, yeah, I just changed my insurance to Geico and I don't have the Let me go on my phone because I didn't get the actual paper to switch. It's in my phone. Hold on. >> Okay. You can hold these documents. They're val. Where you guys coming from tonight? >> Um at the Robinson Hill House, too. >> Oh, gotcha. Okay. Anything drink tonight? >> Yes. >> What' you have? >> I was drinking a vodka club. >> And when's when did you last have your last drink? >> Like right before we left. >> Literally was when? >> Like five minutes ago. Cuz >> ago, okay. >> All right. Why you working on insurance? Let me just go. Uh, >> as he approached Courtney, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed indicators of impairment. Courtney told patrolman Glmbiski that she was coming from the wine loft in Long Branch and she admitted to consuming vodka earlier that evening. Patrolman Glmbiski returned to his patrol car to check her license. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Courtney was eventually asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. Check your license. I'll bring it back with you. All right. >> No problem. >> They tried to duck on me. >> Channel club. >> Cuz she shut off her lights as she came on a beach road and then pulled in here. Blacked out. >> Interesting. >> Yeah. I said, she said, "Oh, I pulled in here because uh I saw you." I was like, "You mean you were hiding from me?" And she's like, "No, because you pulled them right behind me." I said, "No, pulled out. You turned off your lights and came in the driveway." She won't admit to She won't admit to it, but it's exactly what was going on. >> She's speeding >> 54. Uh, and then, uh, what is it called? Um, she said that she had at least one drink. >> And um, >> yeah, she said she had at least one drink. Uh, she didn't specify to me. She said, and I said, "When's your When was your last drink?" Oh, like five minutes before we left. When was that? >> Yeah. When was that? Five minutes ago. >> So, trying to duck on me. [Music] >> See your ton of feedback. >> I apologize. >> Yeah. Can you just check the Okay. >> Okay. What's up It's just chugging water. >> We're going to do tests right here probably. >> You want me to shut my lights down? >> Yeah, if you could because I'm going to need to do them right here. It's a gravel. It's It's gravel over here. >> Miss, do you have to find insurance? Oh, perfect. >> Yeah, I just changed it so I had to pull it up because >> 22 26 25. Okay, cool. You can hang on to that. So, listen. Just because you said you had something to drink and the driving behavior I observed. I just want to do some tests on you real quick. So you can just step out of the car. Thank you. >> Nope. Nope. You can hold on to them. Yep. They're both valid. They're all good. >> Just watch yourself getting out. We're going back towards my car cuz I can't do the test on the gravel here. >> No problem. >> Great. Perfect. Thank you. You can just walk back this way. >> Okay. just you know Amy is a passenger too just so you know. Okay. So um do you have any issues with your eyes? >> No. >> No. No eye issues? >> No. >> Do you wear contacts? >> I do wear contacts. >> Do you have contacts in right now? >> Yeah. >> Okay. No worries. Uh glasses then I presume, right? >> I wear glasses. Yeah. When I take them out. >> Okay. I just have to ask you. Okay. So >> patrolman Gmbiski started with the horizontal gaze nistagmus HGN test where he observed 66 indicators of impairment. The second exercise was the walk and turn test. During the walk and turn test, Courtney did not touch heel to toe on each step turned improperly and took an incorrect number of steps. The third exercise was the one leg stand test and Courtney failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete. The fourth exercise was the lack of convergence test. The final exercise was the modified rberg balance test. >> Um what I'm going to do for this first test is your feet together just like this and your hands down by your sides. This first test is called the horizontal gaze and sagg test. Basically it's a test of your eyes. Okay. So, what I have to do is you're going to follow that red light with just your eyes and your eyes only. I don't want you to move your head. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. Can you still see the light? >> Yeah, I'm looking at it. >> Okay. You just weren't looking at it before. That's what I was asking. I'm still >> That's okay. You have to keep doing it. 327. >> Yeah. [Music] Try to keep your head straight. When I go to your left side, you keep moving. All right. Okay. You going to go up this time, right? >> Mhm. >> Okay, great. Do you have any physical injuries that prevent me from doing a balance test? >> No. >> No. Not at all. >> No. >> Okay. So, the next test I'm going to have to do is called the walk and turn test. We are going to do it right over here because this is a little more flat and more well lit. >> Perfect. Thank you. So, I'm going to have you stand right where my light is right there. >> Okay. >> Are you comfortable in those shoes? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> The only thing is it's freezing, but >> Okay. Yeah, it's a little chilly out. So, don't worry, I'll take that in consideration. So, what I'm going to have you do is get in the start position. The start position for this test is I want you to imagine a line right in front of you. I want you to put your left foot on that line just like this. >> My left foot? >> Yep. And put your right foot touching heel to toe with your left foot just like this. Perfect. I want you to keep your hands down by your sides and stay in that position during the entire time I explain the test. >> Okay. >> Okay. So when I tell you to begin, I want you to take a series of nine heel totoe steps down that imaginary line in front of you. It's going to look just like this. One, two, three. Once you've reached your ninth step, keep that lead foot planted, turn yourself around just like this. Once you've turn >> Yeah, just keep your lead foot planted like that and just use use your other foot to turn yourself around with a series of small steps. Take nine more heel to toe steps down the line just like this. One, two, three. >> So, I'm going to demonstrate it full speed for you now so that you understand. One, two, three. One, two, three. All the way till nine each direction. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, some things to note during the test. I want you to keep your hands down by your sides the entire time. Just try to stay in the start position for me. >> Sorry. >> Okay. So, just make sure you're touching heel toe. Perfect. Okay. So, while you're doing the test, keep your hands down by your sides. Look down at your feet while you're counting your steps out loud. Um, don't stop the test until you fully complete the test. And make sure you're counting your steps out loud. You have any questions? >> Nope. >> Okay, >> you can begin. One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. Right. Was that right? >> Yeah, it's You keep going. >> One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. >> Okay, you can relax. All right. So, next test I have for you is called the one leg stand test. Are you injured after the walk and turn test? >> Am I injured after that? >> Yeah. No. >> Okay, perfect. So, for the start position for this test is your feet together just like mine are and your hands down by your sides. I want you to remain in that position while I explain the test to you. Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> Sorry. >> No, it's No, it's okay. So, when I tell you to begin, I want you to raise a foot of your choice off the ground approximately 6 in. While you have that foot off the ground, you're going to keep it parallel to the ground just like that. And you're going to look down at the tip of your foot and count out loud in the following manner. Demonstrate it for you now. 1,001 1,002 1,003 1,004 100, 105 100,00 in front of me or it can't do like >> No, it has to be just like this. Some things to note is keep both of your legs straight and not bent. Keep your hands down by your side the entire time while you're balancing. Look down at the tip of your foot and see how my foot is parallel to the ground. It's not like this. Par parallel. Okay. >> I want you to count just like that. Now, let's say you're counting 1,00 1 100 1 2 100 3 and you put your foot down. I want you to pick that foot right back up and count from where you left off. Yeah. And count from where you left off. So, if I'm counting 1 100,00 2 100 3 100 4 100 5 10 100 6 100. Do you have any questions? >> No. >> Do you understand? >> Yes. >> Okay. Give me one second. County 4320. >> You can begin. >> 1001,002 1003 1004 105 106 1007 1008 1009 12. Sorry. >> That's okay. Yep. Just keep going. >> 101. >> No, you count from where you left off. 1234 2015 20168 or 19 2020 21223 1 125 1 126 >> You can stop. >> Okay. So, next test I have for you is another eye test. It's called the lack of convergence test. Um, this test I just need you to follow the tip of that light with your eyes and your eyes only. You're not moving your head again. Okay. >> Can you just put your feet together like this and your hands down by your sides? That's a star position. You're going to stay in that position the entire time. Okay. >> Mhm. >> All right. You can see that light. No problem, right? >> Yes. >> Okay. Follow your eyes and your eyes only. Okay. Give me one second. [Music] Okay, miss. I got one more test for you. Okay, >> freezing. >> Okay, no worries. Um, it's called the modified romberg balance test. This test is uh real simple. All you're going to do is keep your feet together just like this. Your hands down by your sides. Stay in that position while I explain the test to you. Okay? So, when I tell you to, you're going to tilt your head back, close your eyes, and once you believe 30 seconds has gone by, you're going to tilt your head back down, open your eyes, and say stop. That's the whole test. >> I'm just going to tilt my head back and count. >> Yep. It's going to look just like this. I'll say begin. You'll tilt your head back, close your eyes. >> When I believe 30 seconds, >> Once you believe Yep. Once you believe 30 seconds has gone by, >> stop. >> Okay, >> that's it. You have any questions? >> No. >> Okay. >> Sorry. I'm just like shivering. >> No, it's okay. >> All right. So, um, give me one second. I got to find a nice even number on my watch here. >> Just keep your feet together for me. >> Perfect. All right, you can begin. [Music] [Music] done. >> Yes. >> Okay. [Music] Okay. >> Okay, miss. Um, so listen. >> Yes. >> I don't know how much you've really had to drink tonight, but I think it's been too much. So, you're going to be placed under arrest for DWI. Okay. Um, >> place under arrest. >> Yep. All right. >> What test did I fail >> for DWI? There's multiple indicators of impairment in each test that I observed. All right. >> What? >> What do you mean what? >> I'm just wondering what >> Oh, I'm not going to sit here and explain each one to you. Okay. I could explain it to you more inside, but we're not going to do that in the side of the road. Okay. So, turn around. Face away from me. based on her erratic driving, her admission to consuming alcohol earlier that evening, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises. Courtney was placed under arrest. After she was placed under arrest, her vehicle was impounded for a 12-hour hold according to John's law. Patrolman Gmbiski transported Courtney to the Mammoth Beach Police Department for further processing. >> Okay, >> put your hands behind your back. Okay, stay right there. >> Yeah, I'll explain. I can explain more to you inside. >> Inside where? >> Inside, please head, course. Those aren't too tight, right, miss? >> No. >> Okay. >> Okay. Um, would you mind searching her? I don't think she has anything on her, but >> just walk over to the back of the car here. >> Yeah. >> Right here. >> This side right here. >> Yeah. >> You have nothing on you that's going to like stick, stab, poke me, anything. It's just >> It's just a dress. Okay. Yeah. >> All good. Perfect. Okay. Just watch your step getting in. Oh, let me let me move that seat belt out of the way first. Okay. Watch your step getting in. >> Okay. >> Do you need anything from the car? >> My shoes. >> Uh, >> yeah. If you want, that's fine. >> Do you need anything from the car? Phone, wallet, >> I mean, house keys. >> Yeah, my phone and wallet is in the car. I'm like allowed to get it for my whole bag and my purse and >> I can grab whatever you want. >> What do you want me to grab from? >> You can get my my bag with my phone. My wallet is in it. Yeah. >> Okay. Bag, wallet. Um, >> well, your car like I've never been arrested, so I don't know what is happening right now. >> Your car keys need to go to the vehicle. Okay. Cuz the vehicle is going to get towed. Has a mandator >> Why can't he drive my vehicle? >> It's a mandatory 12-hour hold. It's called John's law in the state of New Jersey. Okay. So, I will get everything for you. You have a cow key on your on your car keys. >> I don't know what John's law is because I've >> It's a mandatory 12-hour hold for intoxicated drivers. >> Okay. So, he cannot drive >> He cannot drive it. No, he cannot drive it. >> So, Okay. >> Okay. All right. Hang tight. I just need the uh key fob. >> Is the key fob in here? >> I don't know. >> Yeah. >> Okay, cool. >> You want to change the >> I'm going to take her house keys off cuz she wants her house keys. Uh how does this come off here? Okay, here you can put this back in her purse. She's allowed to have all that. The key fob's going to save the car. This is keyless, right? Yeah, totally. >> So, what's what's going to happen? >> Sorry. >> What's going to happen right now? >> She's being taken back to headquarters to be processed for DWI. Okay. And the car needs to get towed. Is that her purse? >> Yeah. >> And stuff. >> Okay. She wants it to go to headquarters with her. >> So, do you want me to take it? >> Let's go. >> Okay. Well, you can't come in the same car as me cuz I only have one prisoner compartment. >> That's okay. >> Okay. >> She said she wants me to go with her. She didn't say anything. She said she wants that to go with her, though. >> This to go with >> Yeah. So, I mean, you're more than welcome to come to headquarters and sit in the lobby if you want. >> What's really going to happen right now? >> What do you mean what's really going to happen? Car's getting towed and she's being arrested for. >> I know that, but >> she can get she's going to get released tonight as long as she can call for somebody. >> 40 minute process. >> Yeah, >> it's it's not long. >> Okay. >> It's a quick process. Um, Matt, you want to you want to give him that first? >> Yeah, I can take it in with her. Um, I'm gonna transport you over. >> Is Coangelo uh coming? I'm coming here. What's up, dude? >> Coming out of the driveway. >> It's not even her driveway. She was ducking me. >> Oh, nice. >> She shut She shut off her lights as she was pulling in here cuz I I had her coming on Ocean Avenue. She she blacked out her lights and pulled in there and I said, "Where are you guys going?" Her license is a channel club. It's two streets down from here. >> Yeah. So, huh? >> Exactly. So, you don't mind sitting on it, though? >> You know me. >> Sick. You're the best, dude. >> I got you. >> Appreciate you. Um, I'll take the neutral. >> I guess tell him uh he's going to try and get out of the driveway. So, he might even back it out.
