It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 12:52 a.m. on September 3, 2024, Patrolman Matthew Golembieski from the Monmouth Beach Police rolled down Ocean Avenue. He spotted a red 2023 Hyundai Elantra zipping along at 54 mph in a 35 mph zone. As he tailed the car, the driver ducked into a random driveway on Beach Avenue. She killed her lights, trying to hide. Golembieski flipped on his emergency lights right there in the driveway. He pulled up and met the driver, Courtney Loglisci. He walked up to her and caught a whiff of alcohol. He saw signs she might be impaired. Courtney said she had left the Wine Loft in Long Branch. She owned up to drinking vodka that night. Golembieski headed back to his cruiser to run her license. His gut told him she was driving drunk, so he asked her to step out. He wanted her to do some field sobriety tests. First came the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Golembieski noted all six clues of impairment. Next, she tried the Walk and Turn. Courtney missed heel-to-toe steps. Her turn was off, and she counted the steps wrong. Then, the One Leg Stand. She didn't lift her foot right and dropped it too soon. The lack of convergence test followed. Last was the Modified Rhomberg Balance Test. Her wild driving, the booze she admitted to, and the failed tests sealed it. Golembieski arrested Courtney on the spot. He impounded her car for a 12-hour hold under John's Law. Then he drove her to the Monmouth Beach Police station for booking. There, they read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to give breath samples. The Alcotest showed 0.114% blood alcohol—over the 0.08% limit. Once processing wrapped up, a sober adult took her home. She signed the Potential Liability Warning and waited for court.
