Hi, I'm Portland Police Captain Nathan Shepherd. [music] When I managed Portland's special victims unit, I had a surprising number of requests by members of the disability community, >> [music] >> their families, or advocacy groups asking to be added to our program that identified individuals as requiring [music] special accommodations. Except, we didn't have a program like that until now. We worked with [music] experts in ADA law and with members of the disability community and I am just beyond [music] excited to announce a voluntary program created with the community, not for it, to meet what is a critically important need. [music] PPB's Local Emergency Accommodation Program, or LEAP, is a voluntary program that will allow anyone [music] who needs an accommodation to let us know ahead of time before they're in need of an emergency response. [music] Now, this program, as I said, is just in its infancy, which means we'll be actively looking for ways to help it serve [music] your needs better. Click on the link to have a look, see if you're interested in participating, or to provide some valuable feedback we [music] can use to make LEAP I encourage you to take a few minutes to check it out. Again, >> [music] >> it's a voluntary program made with the disability community, not for it, and that means something. We all know someone or have [music] friends, family, or coworkers who are members of the disability community, and I think they deserve better. So, [music] let's make it happen. I'll see you next time.
