What's going on, man? >> Uh, we got stuck and I'm just trying. >> Around 10:29 p.m. on July 27th, 2024, patrolman Keith Smith with the Barnagat Township Police Department first responded to report of a motor vehicle accident to a motor vehicle accident in the area of Hickory Lane and Atlantic City Boulevard, US9. The officers noticed that a 2020 Toyota Corolla was disabled in a wooded area east of Hickory Lane. It would later be determined that the driver was headed eastbound on Hickory Lane while disregarding a stop sign and driving straight into the woods. >> Like I've been wiggling out branches from this side and that side. There's like one underneath uh right in the dead center of the hood and underneath the right tire. Okay. >> And it's like lifting the car up so we can't back it out. It's not on the ground. >> Yeah. Yeah. What uh what happened? Uh, we were driving and just like I don't know. I was I was in the back. I was looking on my phone, but I guess she didn't see like the stop sign or something. >> Oh, you were shot like >> you just went shot across from Hickory coming straight down. >> Yeah, basically. >> Okay. >> Are you all right? >> Yeah, I'm fine. >> You're good. >> But I'm Yeah, we're just kind of stuck. We were trying to dig the logs out from underneath the car >> and then the car >> cuz the car still drives. >> We were just >> We just came back from Walmart and she was dropping us off. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, we're just not too sure how to get out. >> Is it like bad stuff? >> Yeah. It's like No, it's just a log under the car. >> Well, no, cuz I tried to like >> You're probably going to have to have a toe come pull you out of here. Yeah. >> There's no way to get out without a tow truck. >> Yeah. No, I don't think so. Probably not. >> This isn't [ __ ] like I have my whole [ __ ] livelihood in this car. >> No, we understand. It's It's not We're going to get it dragged out of the woods first and then we can continue. >> Continue. Why? You can get everything that you need out of it. >> I don't even know. Like >> y'all drag it out the woods. >> Bro, just come on. >> I'll buy a new bike and we'll just >> Can you do one more thing? >> Yeah. >> Here. I know. I know. The the ground is so uneven. >> Here. I can take this if you want. >> All right. You play >> here. Yeah. [Applause] >> Did you give him your license and registration and all that [ __ ] Okay. >> I dead can't even see back there. >> Move the spray paint cans. >> Are these your keys in here? >> All right. Even if you find the red one or pink one, either one works. >> It's not going to be. >> It's fine. I'll just buy a new one. >> I don't know. It's like I already explained I got the wrong way. After you get over that log, come this way because there's >> Are these pieces of her car? >> Uh, there's been other cars that have come into here before, so probably not. have rear drive information. Mom's 16 years old. >> Okay. So, there's that. >> Cool. Then I got to grab the other girls. And then I got her stuff too. Yeah. What was your consensus charity thing? >> Uh >> 18, right? Not even >> birthdays May 2nd, 2003. So >> how old are you? >> 19. >> East. >> She's 19. >> You? Yeah. Okay. >> How old are you? >> 19. >> 19 years old. >> I didn't know anything but struggling. >> So you see that? So all that kind of stuff >> to make sure. >> Yeah. >> Go that route. >> Yeah. >> All right. Thanks, guys. >> Where can I do them over here? >> Inside the road. Yeah. [Applause] Let's get throw this stuff in the car first. All right, Nadia, can I speak with you for a moment over here? >> Can I come with her? >> No. >> Okay. >> Can you >> Can I talk to her for a second? No. Nadia, come over here. Let's talk on her, please. Come on. I'm right there. >> Everybody [ __ ] right over here in front of the police car. Police all the way in front. We're going to stand over here for a second. You just stand facing this way. This way. Nadia, turn around. Okay. >> All right. Listen, based on what happened today, I'm going to have to run you through some tests real quick just to test your sobriety. Okay. >> You're perfectly fine. >> Okay. No, I understand. But just something I'm going to do. All right. Just based on what's going on here. All right. Before we begin the test though, really quick, did you take any medications today? Do you take any medications on not you have any um like physical ailments, medical conditions? The officers made contact with the driver who was identified as 19-year-old Nadia. There were two juvenile passengers inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. Nadia told the officers that she continued straight after being told to do so and as a result she drove into the woods. The officers observed indicators of impairment and they asked Nadia to perform field sobriety exercises. >> Do you have any injuries or anything? Um, what's your highest level of education in school? >> Um, high school diploma. >> Okay. So, you graduated high school. Okay. All right. So, you don't have any injuries to your body right now or anything like that. You performing any like balance test and my arms hurt. >> Your leg and my arms hurt. Okay. Um, now what do you do for a living? Hopefully, what's your job? >> Door dash. >> Door dash. Okay. So, you walk around a lot and you don't have anything preventing you from normal everyday balancing kind of stuff, right? >> No, sir. >> Okay. >> All right. And again, you don't take any medications? No. >> We'll get it back. Don't worry. >> Charger. >> It's okay as well. We're going to just leave it over there. >> All right. Thank you, Harris. >> Yeah, no problem. She'll get it. She'll get it right back. All right. So, I know I asked you already, did you have anything to drink tonight? cuz I kind of smell a little alcohol like the order of an alcoholic beverage coming from you. >> The one I just picked both of them up. >> Okay. You didn't have anything to drink though. Okay. So, this >> was my grandma's house. >> This officer's going to he's going to uh explain the custody and everything in its entirety and then uh just pay attention and follow his instructions. Okay. Please. Yes. >> All right. >> All right, dear. >> Patman Sawyer started with the horizontal gaze nagmus HGN test and used her arms for balance. The second exercise was the one leg stand test and Nadia failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete. Nadia was then asked to recite the alphabet from A to Z without singing it, but she could not do so satisfactoryy. The final exercise was the horizontal gaze nestagmas HTN test that was administered by another officer. >> So the first test I'm going to do is the heel to toe test. I'm going to have you start with your right foot, the heel of it touching the left toe. You're going to stay in that position. Keep your arms at your side. All right. You're going to stay like that while I explain the test. All right. So, this test, for this test, you're going to walk heel to toe. You're going to take nine steps. You're going heel toe, heel toe. >> Real quick, heel toe. >> Hold on one second. So, you're going to stand just so you understand, >> you're going to remain in the starting position for this test. Okay? So, what you're going to do, you're going to stand with your right foot in front of your left with your hands down at your side. Okay? And you're going to remain in that position while he explains the test to you. Okay? Your right foot in front of your left, your hands down your side. >> All right? And for this test, >> okay? All right. And so, you're going to stay like this while I explain. So, what it is again, you're going to take nine steps. See? So one 2 3 4 as such. Keep your right foot down. You're going to pivot small steps and you're going to do nine backwards. All right. Do you understand? >> You understand the test? >> Okay. All right. You can begin. Just start with your right foot. Your right heel touching your left toe for me. Arms to your side. >> All right. Nine steps. You can begin. over. >> Okay. >> Did you understand the test? Did he explain it to you? >> It was nine pivot run. >> There's nine steps touching heel to toe. >> Okay. >> Okay. So, real quick, I'm going to explain the test to you one more time. >> Stand with your right foot in front of your left. Your right foot in front of your left. >> That's your left foot. >> Yeah, but I'm one, >> right? I need you to stand with your right foot. >> See how this is? >> Yeah. >> You need to stand with your right foot in front of your left knee, please. Do so now. >> Your hands down at your side. Okay. So, it's going to look just like this. All right. When I tell you to begin and when I only when I tell you to begin, you're going to take nine heel to toe steps. Okay? Just like this, counting out loud. One, two, three. Your heel is touching your toe. On each step, you're going to take nine steps. When you get to the ninth step, you're going to stop. You're going to take a small series of steps. Turn around. You're going to take nine heel to toe steps in the same fashion back. Okay? So, it's going to look just like this. One, two, three, until you get to nine. You get to nine, the test has concluded. Okay? You understand? >> All right. Start with your right foot in front of your left heel touching your toe. All right? You can begin. One 2 3 4 5 6 7 [Music] Okay. All right. Can I just have you stand back in front of the car again? Just a little off to the side. All right. So, this next test I'm going to explain to you. It's going to be the one leg stand. You're going to for the start, I'm going to have you put your feet together, have your feet touching, hands at your side. All right? And then for this test, you're going to take a leg of your choosing, left or right. And what you're going to do is you're going to do exactly as I'm going to show you. Don't do anything until I tell you to do so, though. You're going to lift one leg up of your choice about 6 in off the ground. You're going to count 1 1 2 100 3 100 4 100 until I tell you to stop. Okay. >> While looking at your toe. >> While looking at your toe. All right. >> Okay. A leg of your choosing. You can begin. >> You understand the test? >> Yeah. One, two, three, 7,000. [Applause] Okay. [Applause] 1 1,00 2 1 >> My balance has never been the best. >> Okay. >> I don't >> You're unable to perform the test. >> Able to perform the test. It's just like you can ask. >> You want to try again? >> You want to try again? >> Okay. Go ahead. 1,000. [Applause] What's that? >> I don't know. Like, can I call your grandma? >> Hold on one second. So, we one more test and we'll be done. Okay. >> Yeah. It's just not that like I'm going like I've never sit like this. I just want my grandma or like mom. Okay, I understand. All right. And you So, I'm sorry. What's your highest level of education again? >> I have a high school diploma. >> High school diploma. Okay. And you know, you know the alphabet? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. You know the alphabet. Okay. All right. So, let me let you do is just Can you go with the alphabet A to Z, but without singing it for me? >> A B >> without doing it in like a singing? B C D E F G H I J K L M P Q R S Like I don't [ __ ] know. 2 years. A B C D E F G H I J K L V Q R S T W X Y and Z. Now I know my ABCs. >> Okay. >> You are the best. Like now I know my ABCs. Yeah. That's it. Now I know my next time won't you sing with me? Like is that not that easy for you? Like That was her bad. >> All right, man. >> I'm officer with Bach Police Department. I'm going to conduct one more test for you. >> HGN. Okay. I'm going have you do take a step over here so long. Just stand with your feet together, hands at your side. I'm going explain the test. You just follow the instructions. All right. See the tip of my pen? I'm going to ask you to follow that tip of my pen to your eyes and your eyes open. You understand? >> So, you're not going to move your head back and forth. You're just going to use your eyes. Okay? Ready? Eyes and eyes only. Don't lose that head. All right? Kyle, >> I don't know. have to figure out the other. >> Yeah. All right. Keep following, right? >> I just s ma'am. Okay. There's a lack of smooth pursuit onset prior to 45 and max gears. All right, Nadia. >> Can you come over here with me? >> All right. Caution. Okay. Based on the motor vehicle crash and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, patrolman siknic placed Nadia under arrest for driving under the influence. Patrolman Sawyer transported Shauna to the Barnagad Township Police Department for further processing. >> This right? This way. >> All right. Look.
