All right, so the car down there I don't know if he was making a right or sorry, left on a 7th. So he was sitting there stopped and his wheels cocked. He said looked in his rearview, saw her, she hit him. Car followed the wheels, hit the oncoming car. So it's those two down there. And then she rolled into I was literally parked right here. I saw in my rearview mirror she was going to roll into the fire hydrant there. Got it? Wait, we're on South 7th or 8th? No. So that's 8th. That's 8th. That's 8th. Yeah, that's why I was confused. 7th is over here. Sorry, I was turning onto 8th. Okay. So which which way she was coming down? Woodbridge Avenue? coming off Around 10:12 p.m. on September 1st, 2023, Patrolman Ryan Van Norman with the Highland Park Police Department was conducting traffic enforcement on Raritan Avenue. He heard a loud crash and looked in his rearview mirror. A 2021 Chevrolet Camaro struck a planter, road sign, as well as a utility pole. He radioed the motor vehicle crash into police communications and first made contact with the driver of the Camaro, who was identified as Lindsey. In addition to the Camaro, he observed two other vehicles on Woodbridge Avenue near the intersection with S. 8th Avenue. Everybody was going towards New Brunswick except for except for the one The one coming off 8th. Careful. Careful. Okay. Hey, look at my wheels. I got out to see she's all right. Okay. She got out. All right, do me a favor. Go grab my car. Bring it in here. Uh let's bring it down over to the concrete area here. It's flat. All right, flat. Okay. And uh Going back up there. No, no, no, no, no. Okay. I don't My name is Patrolman Garrity. Yes, sir. Your name is? Um Lindsey Winefred. Lindsey? You got Lindsey? All right. Um As he was speaking with Lindsey, he observed indicators of impairment. He then walked over to speak with the driver of a black 2011 Honda Civic, as well as the driver of a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid. The driver of the Toyota was transported to the hospital, while the driver of the Honda complained of pain, but declined transport to the hospital. Their investigation would later reveal that Lindsey struck the Honda as the driver proceeded to make a left turn onto S. 8th Avenue, and the force of the collision led him to strike the Toyota that was coming in the opposite direction. The driver of the Camaro continued driving until striking the other objects. Do you know where you are? Yes, sir. Do you know what happened? Yes, sir. Okay, what happened? I I kind of actually I hit my head. So maybe not that much of knowing what happened, but anything to drink tonight? I told the officers that I did have a cocktail. A cocktail or cocktails? A cocktail. I did. I told them. How many cocktails? I had a a glass of wine with dinner. And I was going and I was going home. Okay. Where's home? Where were you having dinner? Uh Scarlet in Edison. Okay. And which road were you taking? River Road. River Road? I was going to River Road. Got you. Okay. All right. Do you take to meet you. Nice to meet you. Uh I don't want to shake hands right now. Okay. Um Do you take any medications or anything? No, sir. No? Not prescribed for anything? Don't take anything outside of prescriptions? No. Nope. Okay, very good. All right, here's what I'm going to do. Um since you did admit to drinking to to me and the other officers, okay? I want to take a field sobriety field sobriety, okay? Yes, sir. So what we're going to do is we're going to go over there. Do me a favor. Turn it around, face that way, and turn off my fronts. Okay. Flip-flop it. Turn it 180. All right, so what we're going to do once he moves that car, we're going to go over to that little concrete area. doing a a field sobriety? I'm sorry? Are we doing a field sobriety? Yes, ma'am. Okay. So again, once he moves this car and flips it around, we'll walk over there. You okay? Uh before we start, I'm going to ask you two questions. Do you wear prescription uh contacts or anything? Glasses, uh contacts, lenses? So that's a no that you do not prescribe? not, but I probably should. Okay. So you don't have anything. Right. Do you have any medical conditions with your eyes? That's Other than the the vision? Yeah, I mean I I probably should. Okay. Yes. All right. Next question. have like a problem with my eyes. What's that? Like that's why I have a doctor's appointment for my eyes. For what? For contacts or vision? absolutely. Okay. All right, the next question I'm going to ask you, do you have any uh physical injuries that would prevent you from doing any kind of uh physical test? Knee, foot, elbow? Nothing? I'm not as like limber as I was at 21. It's okay. All right, I'm 42. I'll let you know that. Well, by her still, so. I just realized I can't bend as well. Okay. Yeah, like I yeah, seeing her like I literally have like I can't even bend over as well. But as right now, nothing is really Yeah. No real injuries. Okay. No, I'm sorry. Thank you. so one of these individuals walk through, we're going to Why don't we do ourselves a favor, Lindsey? Why don't we put the phone inside the car, please? Here, sir, you can Okay, I'll hold it for you. I'll put it over here, okay? I don't know what to say. We good? All right. All right, Lindsey, let's walk into the front of the car. This way. Actually, do me a favor. Go run in there quickly and turn off the Just turn them all off. It's going to like kill my eyes. Yeah, I know. We're going to just going to turn them all off. There we go. Okay. Let's go into the front of the car. Yes, sir. Okay. We'll go all the way to the end of the concrete. Patrolman Kevin Garrity arrived on scene around 10:39 p.m. to assist with the field sobriety exercises. When Patrolman Garrity made contact with Lindsey, he asked her if she had anything to drink, and she admitted to consuming alcohol earlier that evening. Patrolman Garrity started with the horizontal gaze nystagmus HGN test. Further field sobriety tests could not be administered due to her lack of cooperation, and he terminated further testing for safety reasons. That's perfect right there. Turn around. Stop. Stop, right? Yeah, that's good enough. Okay. Let's take a half step this way. Perfect. Okay. All right, so the first test we're going to do is is your eyes and eyes only, okay? All you got to do is stand there and just move your eyes, okay? So what we're going to do to work out well. Okay. Well, let's Put your feet Listen to me. Put your feet together. Hands to your side. Stay in that position until I tell you, okay? This is the first test. It's a very simple test. Eyes and eyes only. You just got to stay up. Sorry. Yes. I actually have to like move my like legs a little bit further apart. Why is that? Because I'm I'm dyslexic, so I have to actually kind of like this doesn't work for me. Okay. Well, unfortunately So is it okay if it's goes right there? I prefer them being together, but if that's what you need to do, it's what keeps you from falling. But the next test is going to get worse. So, okay? All right, then do me a favor. Can you go a little bit closer? Can you go a little bit closer with your feet? It's like kind of like messes my equilibrium up. Okay. Do me a favor. That's fine like that. Just keep your hands to your side. Okay. Stay like that. Yep. Okay. What you can do is move your eyes and eyes only, okay? Don't turn your head. Keep your head here and just follow with your eyes. 74 on 3rd instruction beyond Woodbridge Avenue now. Arriving shortly. All right, received. Thank you. Almost done. Yeah, you can go a little bit extra? What's that? A little bit extra. Come on, guys. All right. Ready? Okay. Very good. Now, here's the next test, okay? This one's going to be All right. What I need to do is Stand behind. Okay. I need to do this, okay? Right foot in front of your left foot, heel to toe, like so. Yep. No, no, no, no, no, no. I need your right foot in front of your left foot and stay like that. So, put your right foot in front of your left foot. Right foot in front of your left. Right foot? That's your left in front of your You got to do the opposite now. All right. So, do you want it this way? Yep. Just like that. Yep. Exactly. Yep. Keep the right foot in front of your left. No, no. Don't walk. Don't walk. Lindsay, you got to I'm walking home. Lindsay, Lindsay, look at me. I need you to just to stand there. I just need you to look. Lindsay, all you got to do is this. Right foot in front of your left foot and stay there. Right foot in front of your left foot. Gentlemen, I adore everything you do for All right, Lindsay, let's put it this way. Are you refusing to do the test? No. Okay, let's do the right foot in front of your left foot, please. Face me. Right foot in front of your left foot, heel to toe. Like so. [Applause] Lindsay. I'm going to send the 86. Lindsay, get back over here. Yes, sir. Yes, sir. Right foot in front of Right foot in front of your left foot. [Applause] And don't move. Stop walking. Just put your right foot in front of your left foot and stand there. That's all you have to do. Based on the motor vehicle crash, the odor of alcohol, her admission to consuming alcohol, and her inability to satisfactorily complete the field sobriety exercises, Lindsay was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. After she was placed under arrest and placed in the patrol car, her vehicle was impounded according to John's Law. Patrolman Gerardi transported Lindsay to the Highland Park Police Department for further processing. Yep. Turn around. Put your hands behind your back. I'm not turning anything. Field sobriety test because for safety concerns. 58 at headquarters, 100. Can we call for a sobriety test for a female officer? All right, Lindsay, let's walk this way. Yes, sir. What do you need out of your vehicle? Just my bag, please. Bag, cell phone. Cell phone, wallet. is everything in there. What kind of bag is it? What kind of bag is it? It's a really big bag. Okay, okay. Hold on one second. Hold on one Hold on. Let me get the Just take a half step back. Yes, sir. All right, there you go. Just lean against the car. Just lean against the car. Okay. I'm going back to your cruiser. Yes, sir. Have a seat. All right. What's that? Yeah. Okay. All right. Well, actually do me a favor. Yeah. I'm going to take over this whole thing. Okay. So, I need to know So, she was coming down. What did What car did she hit first? Van Emmen would know that. He's the one that saw it. Like I basically almost saw the whole thing. Okay. I need literally just got Driver only in each vehicle? Okay, make sure you have licenses. License numbers. If they're not the I don't care if they're the owner or not. Just give me the license numbers, plate numbers, insurance information. Okay. Insurance code and this one's going to be really messed up because this one is a Kentucky out of state. And And it's expired. Expired. So, I need to know all that, okay? A blue Corkcicle mug is empty inside. It's filled with ice, but there is the odor of apple and melon from the cup. That is just soda in the clear one. [Music] This is her bag. [Music] You're good. You're good. All right, Lindsay, this is your bag, right? Yes, sir. Okay. You got your cell phone. I was trying to give this to someone. They're gluten free. Unopened hard seltzer. For what? I'm confused with everything. All right, so insurance policy. Her insurance policy. I need everything because it's out of state. Yeah. So, I need Is there any any any IC number on it? I need the phone number, address for this Kentucky one. So, pretty much just copy everything down from the Kentucky one. Even though it's expired, I need it all. Okay. I don't know where it was. I have her purse. Okay. [Applause] All right, so go over the gist again. So, you had a car coming off of 8. Well, I didn't see the guy on the on Woodbridge. He was turning left onto 8. Oh, he was coming down. He was stopped in traffic to make the left. And then he saw this guy with you. And so, instead of hitting me, pushed him and followed the wheels into the other lane as another car was coming coming this way. Yeah, so which one was the other one? The one that's in the other lane with you. That was the one that was going towards Edison. The one that's sideways. Can you do me a favor? Just stay here with her so I can go up there and look at it. [Music] [Music] Gave you the rundown? Yeah. Are they the drivers or anything? Huh? Are they the drivers? I can't hear you. Are they the drivers? He was the driver. Oh, which one? The one with the hat on. The one that got initially The one that got initially hit? Yes. So, he was the one stopped, making about to make a left? Correct. He was stopped, I guess, somewhere in this area about to make a left. But, I got to say, he was probably right around back here somewhere. The guy who was about to go to the hospital? Or who went to the hospital? He was in that car. He was in that Edison and he was uh impact sent him He was turned and backed [Applause] She kept on going. She kept on going. Yeah. You don't mind I'm just going to take a walk. Whatever you want. Whatever yeah. So I'm not going back and forth or anything. No. All right. I was pulling whatever you want. I just told him I just wanted to know I don't care if they're the registered owner or not. I want 81. I heard you're going to be worse than they thought. The Kentucky Yeah. He's going over everything. I told him to write everything down and he's trying to follow procedure. I don't know if he has the phone number or not. He'll be all right. I mean he's all right. Okay. Um the other one is very very pretty similar. Yep. Uh that guy went to the hospital. The guy in that car? This guy did he have a complaint of pain? Huh? And this guy? Yeah. Did he have a complaint of pain here? I did also my pain. You didn't go to the hospital Yeah, that happens to stop by real quick, sir. [Music] [Music] Real quick, sir. I'm going to be the one doing the investigation real quick on this. He's a crash investigator so he's going to Okay. So I was unfortunately with the one on the desk at the time, okay? So what it basically I got the gist. You were at a complete dead stop? I I think I was I I pretty much I was going to I was just going to be turning here but I was at you know I was stopping cuz the car was coming. but you were like a crawl almost? I can't remember I maybe I was maybe I was totally stopped because but like and then he was coming this way and I I looked in my rear view mirror because the car in front of the one that hit me was like ripping behind me like an [ __ ] I went flying around after me so I was already like like I was like what the hell so I looked up in the mirror and I was like oh my god and she came right and bam and then my bag came out and then he was hit. I was like oh my god I got out and he was like probably the walker guy in the other car. So I was yeah I was stopped here ready to turn here cuz I live right over here and he was coming this way and she hit me from behind and then he was like pushed me into him. Your car was turned. Yeah. Yeah. Okay. The initial on the back there uh I think it was anyway. They looked like they were uh I mean the way it when I first saw it from a distance I mean yeah I mean you guys were in the intersection. She literally she Yeah. The impact So [Music] Okay. [Music] Okay. I ain't I ain't paying anywhere? Um right right here a little. Right ribs? Yeah the bag. From the air bag? And like my fingers for some reason like tips like I don't know felt like I got like hit them or something I don't know why. But I don't know it's just It's a flying shock. But I'm going to I'm probably going to get checked out. Nervous something? Yeah I mean I'm probably going to go to the hospital later just like if I if I yeah cuz I Go to the side you never know what that can be. Yeah. And apparently or not. Yeah I don't want to be And that's not to say we're younger anymore but I know I know that's the They turn a lot more now. But you can obviously you can always follow up with them and go back to the hospital. All right. So right ribs on you. His was what the chest? Uh Samson? I didn't get that stuff. Okay. I'll get it from them and that's all that matters. He was like he was like he was it seemed like his bag like my bag only hit me here for some reason. I physically hit him the whole way it looked like like from here to there. And he has asthma his friend said. No and that doesn't and that doesn't affect his asthma or anything. Yeah I saw some dust in my car too. Yeah it's just the air bag the the the chemical Yeah. they use so it's not it's not very healthy. I got to like worry about than air bags like No it's it's it's not saying it's a healthy thing to do but it's not going to hurt you either. Well my window was open anyway so it's not going to hurt. It it just it might irritate you a little bit that's all it is. It is a dust and uh you're breathing in your lungs. Okay. It's something that shouldn't be in your lungs. Okay. Like everything else shouldn't be in your lungs but if it goes in your lungs but is it going to harm you? No. Okay. So when I I call my insurance company or whatever they gave me this number That's the case number. for the report whatever I Yeah so My car is dead so Uh To be honest with you I got the other the other female driver I got her she's under arrest.
