On May 13th, 2025, around 3:31 a.m., patrolman Justin Gston with the Parcipony Police Department was conducting stationary patrol route 10 East and Karen's Road. He observed a black 2019 Honda CRV van driving around 88 MH in a 50 MH zone. The driver then exited onto the Taber Road off-ramp. After exiting the highway, the driver drove on the wrong side of the road, disregarded a traffic signal, and continued driving south on Taper Road as she headed into Morris Plains. At this time, patrolman Gost activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop and the driver pulled over in the shoulder. Morning. How you doing? I'm officer Gazen Partipient Police. Just letting you know everything's being recorded. Can you guys see your driver's license, registration, insurance, please? He initiated contact with the driver of the Honda and her ex-boyfriend passenger. The driver was eventually identified as 19-year-old Juliana Geller. When he asked Juliana if she understood why she was being pulled over, she acknowledged that she had been driving like an idiot. She asked if she could speak with the officer outside the car and she told patrolman Gost that she had just broken up with her boyfriend. She tried to justify her erratic driving by claiming that she wanted to scare her ex-boyfriend because he had cheated on her. As he was speaking with her, he detected the odor of alcohol. But Juliana denied consuming any alcohol earlier that evening. Driver's license. >> Where are we headed to this morning? >> Not anywhere in particular. >> Okay. Based on his suspicion of impairment, patrolman Gost called for patrolman Gabboardi to arrive on scene and administer field sobriety exercises. Sergeant Jason Ferrer arrived on scene shortly afterwards started speaking with Juliana while patrolman Gost and spoke with the male passenger to get some more information. A few minutes later, patrolman Boardi arrived on scene to administer field sobriety exercises. registration and insurance. Do >> you have any idea why I'd be stopping you this morning? >> Probably because I was driving like an idiot. >> That's one way of putting it. Okay. So, I have you at 88 mph on route 10, which is a posted 50 zone. All right. Then you got off route 10 and then coming here, you completely disregarded the traffic signal. went on the other side of the road to then come down this way. What's going on with that? >> Can I talk to you outside of the car or no? >> You can. >> All right. >> Thank you. >> What's going on? So, we just broke up. >> Okay. >> After a couple years. And I was just trying to I'm sorry. I'm trying. >> That's okay. >> I was trying to like prove a point to him that he should be like scared of me. Um I don't even know. But we just broke up and I'm not really thinking like rationally. We've been together for a while. >> Okay. >> But I promise you, I don't usually drive like that. I just I wanted him to be like we we just broke up like like an hour an hour and a half ago. And >> he told me to give him his clothes back. And I went to his house. He lives like 5 minutes from me. I went and I gave him his clothes back and then he got in my car and then I wanted I don't know. I wanted to scare him so I was like driving crazy but I don't usually drive like that. I promise. Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> Okay. You had anything to drink tonight? >> No. >> Okay. You're positive. >> Positive. Nothing to drink at all. I just wanted to scare him. I wanted him to be scared. >> Okay. All right. So, where where are we going now? What's the goal? >> Um, there's not really any goal, but if I can drop him off and I can go right home. >> Okay. Now, was there some type of argument? >> Um, well, he cheated on me. >> Okay. >> And I just found out tonight. >> Okay. >> So, nothing physical. >> Mhm. >> Okay. All right. Just hang out right here for me. Just do me a favor. Just hang out right there. Okay. All right, boss. What's your name? >> Bradley. >> What's up? >> Bradley. >> Bradley. All right. What's going on tonight? >> Uh, nothing. Just got into an argument and >> got into an argument. How long ago? >> Like possibly like 2 hours ago. >> Okay. How long you guys been driving around? >> Uh, for 20 minutes. >> Okay. >> What time are we? >> Uh, it's just about 3:30. A little bit past the town. >> Oh, what town? So you guys, we're driving through Paripany right now. We're in Morris Plains. Okay. So probably like 20 30 minutes from like >> Okay. All right. What was the argument about? Oh, so like I broke over there and then Well, the reason why I broke >> Keep going. Reason why I was saying cuz she was just being disrespectful like me at the time and I just, you know what I mean? Like I just couldn't keep up with broke or whatever. Then she uh she came to pick me up and talk. Then we got into another argument and then you know what I mean like she was just very emotional at the time and I didn't want to leave her alone. >> Okay. >> So she told me to get out of your car. I said no I don't want to get out of your car like you know what I mean like you're very emotional right now. I don't want to like let you go home like this. So then she's like okay. So just drive around and then just start driving around. >> Okay. And then what was the little stunt coming off of Route 10 there? Was any argument going on there >> with the speed and then driving on the other side of the road disregarding the light? >> Honestly, with the like when she was speeding, she was probably going like 60 mph and then like down the hill just made it faster. >> But I don't think like she was like purposely trying to speed. >> Mhm. >> Um and then like I saw the cop. I said cop. You know what I mean? Like just trying to like get away and then we off here and then like you know we're not from around the area so it was just like a really like sharp curve from there and then just got in here and then I was like stop the car. >> Okay. All right. Has her other than you guys breaking up, getting in the argument, her being upset obviously. Has her behavior been different in any way? >> Like has she do you believe she's possibly intoxicated? Um, I don't think she's intoxicated. I just think like she's, you know what I mean? Like she is going through a lot right now. >> Okay. >> But I don't think she's intoxicated at all. >> Gotcha. Okay. I mean, the reason I asked is cuz obviously with the way she was driving, if it were me in the passenger seat, I'd be like, "Yo, what are you doing?" You know, but >> All right. Just do me a favor. Just sit tight. >> DV or weird one? Uh, no. I don't think it's a DV, but I need I need someone that's uh SFST. >> Okay. >> I just want them to at least check her eyes cuz >> she was done driving. >> Yeah. When I had her stop, >> she asked me if she can get out and talk to me separately and I was like, "Okay." Then she started breaking down as she was talking to me. I started to smell what I >> believe would be alcohol, but just need someone that's SFST to do a quick eye check. As long as she's good, I'll get her out of here with the careless. >> Okay. But yeah, barreling down through 10 88 miles an hour and then we came off and then she trying to go back to the future. >> Yeah. Like went like instead of going to the light, she went this lane that like curves off, went opposite side, disregarded the light, and then was driving down this way on the wrong side of the road until I lit her up and then they stopped right here. Okay. So, okay. So, I guess what's going on? Just so you know, you've been recording. I didn't. Were you in the car? >> 97. >> No, I just got here. What's going >> Where are you from? >> It's the center. >> Okay. You want to go talk over there away from him? Come on. Mhm. What's going on? >> I'm okay. >> Okay. >> I'm okay. Um >> Um I just >> Where are you guys coming from? >> Same place. My house. He lives in Flanders, but like >> Oh, you're coming from your house in Roxbury. Well, I mean, he we came from his house, which is in Flanders. It's a minute or two away from me. >> Who's that to you? >> What >> is that? Your boyfriend? >> Mhm. >> Okay. >> Um I just think I don't know. I I found out he cheated on me today. >> Okay. >> And one big clue. >> There's not much to it. I don't know. I just I found out that he cheated on me like again tonight and he told me to pick him up. He told me to drop off his clothes and pick him up and >> I dropped off his clothes and picked him up and I don't I just wanted to like scare him. I don't know. I was driving crazy car. >> But >> that's it. Were you like swerving and all that [ __ ] >> No, I don't. >> What do you mean you were driving crazy? >> Driving fast. >> Oh, okay. All right. >> I was just driving really fast. I just wanted to scare him because there's not much I can do to How much you have to drink tonight? >> I didn't have anything to drink tonight. >> No. >> There's just not much I can do to scare him. So, >> I don't know. I thought >> Why do you smell like alcohol? >> Do I really? >> Yeah. >> I haven't had anything to drink tonight. >> Okay. You guys at your house? >> We weren't at my house. We were hanging out earlier. Um, but I was at my house and then we like broke up, I guess, and then I went to his house to pick him up. >> Okay. >> And >> All right, great. >> Then we started driving and here we are. >> Okay. All right. You can go to the where you were standing before. Okay. You can come with me, man. I'm patrolling Bardi with Pipany. We are being recorded. I'm just going to have you step down off the curb for me real quick. >> Patrolman Boardi started with the horizontal gaze nice HGN test. The second exercise was the walk and turn test. During the walk and turn test, Julie Anna failed to touch heel to toe on each step and turned improperly. The final exercise was the one leg stand test. During the one leg stand test, Juliana failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and counted in an incorrect sequence. >> I'm just going to have you do an HGN test. Okay. I'm going to have you follow my finger. Okay. >> And we're going to take a look at your eyes and we're going to see where you're at. Okay. >> Okay. >> Do you have any issues with your eyes? Any surgeries? Anything like that? >> Um I had a couple surgeries a couple years ago. >> Okay. Are your visions okay? It's kind of okay. >> What do you mean kind of okay? >> Um, I'm supposed to be wearing glasses, but I don't wear my glasses. >> Do you wear contacts or anything? >> Like I'm supposed to be wearing contacts, but I don't. >> All right. Just follow my finger. Okay. >> Okay. >> Don't watch the curb. >> Just follow my finger with your eyes, not your head. Okay. Just your eyes. >> Just your eyes, not your head. Okay. Don't move your head. Mhm. Heat. Okay. Did you run her through anything else? No. >> No. Okay. All right. All right. Come stand here real quick for me. All right. >> I'm sorry. >> What's wrong? >> What's wrong? >> Like we just broke up and we've been together for a while. >> Okay. >> Can I just have a second? >> Yeah. >> Can you give me your first >> I'm just going to run you through two more tests and then we're going to we're going to run it. Just like have a second. >> Yeah, you can have a second. [Music] Okay, I'm okay. >> All right. >> Okay. >> You ready? All right. Put your feet together. Face the car. All right. Feet together, hands at your side. >> Mhm. >> Okay. I'm going to demonstrate the test and then you're going to do the test. Okay. >> So, we're going to do nine heel to toe tests. I'm going to show you four. You're going to do nine. Okay. >> I have a DUI. I know I know how to do it. >> You have a DUI. When did that happen? >> Um about a year ago. >> Okay. All right. So, I'm going to I'm going to show you four. You're going to do nine. Okay. It's going to be heel to toe. All right. One, two, three, four. You're going to take shuffles. Okay. Start again. One, two, three, four. I showed you four. You're going to do nine. Okay. All right. Begin when you're ready. [Applause] >> Turn left or right. >> Either or. Okay. All right. Hands at your side. I'm going to show you the test and then you're going to perform it. Okay. You're going to have your hands at your side. Pick a leg. Whichever's legs good good for you. Do you have an issue with either leg? Any foot knee injuries? Anything like that? >> No. >> No. Good. Okay. All right. Based on her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, and her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises, Juliana was placed under arrest for operating under the influence. Patrolman Gost initially transported her to the Paripony Police Department for further processing. The standard statement for motor vehicle operators was read to her and she agreed to submit breath samples. Following a 20-minute observation, patrolman Bardi administered the alco test machine, but the machine was inoperable. Juliana was then transported to the Bontin Police Department so they could use their machine. >> All right, ma'am. Face the car for me. Please put your hands behind your back. And I rather not leave you on a stranded road. >> Can I go to the station with you guys? >> I mean, you could probably come to a station, sit in the lobby. >> Yeah. Or I could see if I could drop you off at like a quick check and give you some a little bit closer. Um or if you call an Uber. >> Okay. Um she did she say anything at all about her parents? >> About her what? >> Her parents? >> No. I mean not that I know. Shouldn't say anything to me about that. >> Yeah. [Applause] Want to hold on to these? Sure. >> Um, you don't need anything else, right? >> No. Is he calling to get a ride or >> No, first I'd bring him I'm going to just bring him to his bumps. >> Are you? cuz he he either just going to be stranded here or sitting in the department till 7:00 a.m. So, >> what's his mom? >> So, he's like, "No traffic, just get in there." >> Okay. >> All right. You have your phone, wallet, ID, whatever it is that you may need. [Music] You know if her license was in [Music] Oh, she gave it to one of the officers. >> Okay. Yeah, then they probably have it. >> You don't need that bag. That red bag. >> No, >> stuff in the back. Okay. >> Is she still here? >> Where? No, she's transported back to our headquarters. Yep. >> Got everything. >> You have What do you have on you? >> Uh, her phone. My phone. >> Okay. Yeah. >> No, I wasn't say I wasn't going to say leave with him. I was going to say for you to bring it back to headquarters just in case she needs to call people if they're going to come pick her up or >> whatever the case. It's in It's in the car. So, >> you want to call somebody and let them know. Her alco test results around 5:22 a.m. indicated a back level of 0.14% which was nearly double the legal limit of 0.08%.
