I just want to make sure he didn't in any of these on the way. This one's missing a mirror. I don't know if it's >> I don't see a mirror though. >> That doesn't look fit. >> No, I'm going to check. >> Okay. Construction site accidents and car accidents involving ride share applications such as lift and Uber. If you've been involved in any kind of accident around 9:40 p.m. on February 21st, 2024, officers with the Elwood Park Police Department were dispatched to report of hitandrun crash involving three vehicles on Locust Street. A resident called and informed them that he observed the vehicle fleeing the scene on his surveillance camera. Moments later, officers received another call regarding a possibly intoxicated female blocking the exit of Chase Bank on Van Riper Avenue near South Center Street. Officer Gerald Harris arrived on scene and made contact with a female who had been driving a 2019 Porsche Cayenne. The female was identified as Joanna Drellik, the wife of retired Garfield police officer Gregory Drellik. Joanna told officer Harris that she had been in Wallington earlier that evening and that she was heading home >> 427. >> Let's check that vehicle for passenger side damage. Uh we have an MVA hit run here on Locust. That's affirmative. It's going to be passenger side damage on the uh front tire. Any damage to the fenders? >> Yeah, a firm. It's going to be uh right fender just by the wheel. The wheels actually unable to turn direction. Three, Steve. Tyler, you heading over there? >> I'm just wrapping up on top. >> This car looks all right. >> Huh? >> These are all New York plates. >> It's probably possible. >> It's all New York plates, right? >> We're over here though. If you want over, I >> go over there. That teller is over there. >> Yeah, he's over there. >> Um >> 48 to 404 where you mess. >> This is Carlos. >> Uh I don't see anything on any car. I wonder if uh that is that church open. I wonder if anybody's like that church. >> Oh, yeah. New York. >> Yeah, all three of them are. >> You want me to All three of them? >> Yeah. >> All right. I'll head over there real quick. >> These are two of the same kind of cars. >> All right. Yeah. New York. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> I'm going to head back. >> All three Toyotas. >> They're all three Toyotas, right? What's up, guys? >> What's going on, sir? >> How you doing? 27. You can help me out. You can use New Jersey Edge. Alpha 12. Romeo Romeo Echo. Alpha 12. Romeo. Romeo Echo. I'm out with that part and her son as well. >> What? What? What' you What' you end up hitting? back. >> Uh, I don't even know. >> I don't know. >> We need a tow truck though. >> Yeah, I got I called up one of my boys. She's >> I need So, what's your name? >> My My mom. >> Okay. Do you have your license on you? >> Yes. >> And where are you coming from tonight? >> Uh, my father-in-law. >> How old are you guys? >> I'm 23. >> You drove here? >> I came with my brother to get my mom. Oh, you guys both both of you guys are in here for something. >> Yes. >> Okay. Yeah. >> You guys are going to call a personal toe or you sure though. >> She's not sure what she hit. I should have put the whole tire. No, just like not like with car to car. >> We're pulled over. We're not walking. >> As officer Harris was speaking with Joanna, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed indicators of impairment. Around the same time, Lieutenant Robert Chenovsky exited his patrol car on Locust Street and observed that a parked 2023 Toyota Sienna, 2021 Toyota Sienna, and 2023 Toyota Rav 4 had all sustained damages on their driver's side. Officer Harris also observed damages on the passenger side of the Porsche that Joanna was driving, which would be consistent with striking the other three parked vehicles. Officers Cachola, Griffin, Giuliano, and Cesaro all arrived on scene to assist. Lieutenant Chankovski also headed over to Van Riper Avenue to make contact with Joanna after making a note of the three damaged vehicles on Lucas Street. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. So, originally, uh, someone your mom, I guess, was blocking that driveway. Someone, one of the neighbors, saw her, and I guess she was just like just there. Yeah. >> Um, so they knocked on the window. >> Was it Is it a house driveway or was it this parking lot? >> It was a parking lot driveway. >> Okay. Yeah. >> Um, I guess someone it's still accessible to someone knocked on it and then I guess she had to move. >> Yeah. She couldn't move cuz >> All right. Thank you, bro. Okay. >> Yep. >> No, I think I'm good. >> Yeah. >> Go ahead. LT, >> let's check that vehicle for passenger side damage. Uh, we have an MVA hit and run. You're on Locus. >> Yeah, that's affirmative. LT. There's going to be passenger side damage on the uh front tire. >> So, I think she was I think someone hit her car. >> Sir, appreciate it. >> Someone might have hit her car and ran. >> Any damage to the fender? >> Fender area. Yeah. >> Yeah. A firm. It's going to be uh right fender just by the wheel. The wheels actually unable to turn. tow trucks coming. >> No, cuz >> Yeah. So, I think uh it might it might it might be a possibility. >> Are you heading over there? >> But uh I think Where were you coming? Where was the car parked before? >> In >> Wellington. >> Yes. >> Doesn't make sense. >> Where? No, but but before like it was in Wallington. Where was it parked? Over here. Like you were in Onwood Park tonight. Yes. It was It was parked here, right? >> Parked. >> Okay. Just because there's a there was an MVA hit and run in town. >> Okay. >> So that's why my lieutenant just asked me if there's any damage here. I guess could it probably correlate? >> Possibly >> could have correlated with the car that >> or unless maybe over there. Oh, my my other officer is on his way now. I'm just going to make sure everything is good with him with his license and everything. And then when he gets here, I'll update update him with everything and then we'll go from there. All right. >> Thank you. >> And if you guys need a person, if you guys want us to call our private tow, just let me know. >> Yeah, we'll let you know. Thank you. >> Oh, yeah. >> No, right. Right. I I understand that. I'm going to um when my other officer comes here, I'm going to tell him what's going on and then I'm actually going to call my lieutenant when I get in the car and see like what the cases with that because the focus is right here is right there coming down this way. >> Yeah. Yeah. Okay. >> Drive. >> Which way is he going? >> He's probably coming right in between you. >> Right in between us. So cuz they witnessed her getting like being inside of the car and then she was blocking this drive over here. Witness who? This these two parties witnessed the female party in the blocking this driveway. Okay. Uh a neighbor came and knocked on the door and I guess she didn't she didn't realize and then that's when she pulled up there. her front wheel can't move left or right. But then that's what LT just said um about the NBA. But she but she did have a few drinks 100% cuz I could smell it. I could smell it as well. >> What was she strike? Where's the start of her accident? >> I didn't when I said >> she said to me she couldn't >> the the mother right there in the black. >> Pardon me. Pardon me. >> Where's the driver? >> Uh someone's coming. You're the driver. >> Yes, I have to do some tests, okay? Because uh you hit a couple cars up there >> and you kept going. Yeah, >> there's three cars that were smashed up there. >> Based on their suspicion of impairment, Lieutenant Chenovsky asked Joanna to perform field sobriety exercises. The first exercise was the horizontal gaze nestagmas HGN test. During the HGN test, Lieutenant Chenovsky observed the lack of smooth pursuit, distinct and sustained nestagmas at maximum deviation, and the onset of nestagmas prior to 45°. The second exercise was the walk and turn test. During the walk and turn test, Joanna failed to touch heel to toe on each step while taking an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the one leg stand test. During the one leg stand test, Joanna failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete. >> Yeah, >> he kept going. All right, come over here. >> Okay, I need you to put your hands at your side, feet together. I want you to follow my finger with just your eyes. >> Okay. >> See my finger? Just your eyes? >> Yeah. Definely set. What next thing you're going to do is you're going to do a test. Um Okay. See you have your light on on your uh is your uh camera on? Put your left foot on the line. >> Okay. >> Left foot. >> Okay. When you get to keep just left foot on the line, the right foot directly in front of it. >> Okay. >> Touch your heel. Keep your hands at your side. Now, don't move until I tell you to go. All right. Don't move yet. Don't move yet. Go back. Left foot on the line. Right foot in front. Hands at your side. And just listen to the directions. All right. What you're going to do is you're going to take nine steps forward. When I tell you to go, you're going to count out loud. You're going to go one, two, not yet. Not yet. >> Three. Until you get to nine. When you get to the nine step, you're going to keep that front foot on line. You're going to turn around. You're going to take nine back. >> Okay. >> Ready? Count out loud. >> Got to count out loud. >> Got to count nine steps. >> Three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine. She's she's upset about it and she doesn't want to talk to you no more. Obviously, I have nothing to do with the test or know the accident, but I was trying to give her the respect and the courtesy. But it's several accidents and we had like three witnesses that said they saw her like passed out over here. >> Really? >> Yeah. >> Like you're not lying. The law requires you to submit samples of your breath for the purpose of testing to determine alcohol content. A record of the taking of the breath samples, including the test results, will be made. Upon your request, a copy of that record will be made available to you. After you have provided samples of your breath for testing, you have the right at your own expense to have a person or physician of your own selection take independent samples of your breath, blood, or urine for independent testing. If you refuse to provide samples of your breath, you'll be issued a separate summon for the refusal. A court may find you guilty of both refusal and driving while intoxicated. If a court finds you guilty of the refusal, you will be subject to various penalties, including license relocation of up to 20 years, a fine of up to $2,000, installation of ignition interlock, and referral to an intoxicated driver resource center. These penalties may be in addition to penalties imposed by the court for any other offense of which you are found guilty. You have no legal right to have an attorney, physician, or anyone else present for the purpose of taking the breath samples. You have no legal right to refuse to give or delay giving samples of your breath. Any response from you that is ambiguous or conditional in any respect to my request that you provide breath samples will be treated as a refusal to submit to breath testing. Even if you agree to take the test but then do not follow my instructions, do not properly perform the test or do not provide insuff or provide sufficient breath samples. I will charge you with refusal to submit to breath testing. I repeat, the law requires you to submit samples of your breath for testing.
