They responded to reports of a hit-and-run involving three parked cars. A nearby resident called in, saying he saw a vehicle speeding away on his security camera. Just moments later, another call came in about a woman blocking the exit at Chase Bank on Van Riper Avenue, near South Center Street. Officer Jerel Harris arrived and found the woman sitting in her car—a shiny 2019 Porsche Cayenne. She was Joanna Drelich, the wife of the retired Garfield Police Officer, Gregory Drelich. Joanna told the officer she had been in Wallington earlier that night and was now heading home. While talking to her, Officer Harris smelled alcohol on her breath and noticed signs of impairment. At the same time, Lieutenant Robert Centkowski stepped out of his patrol car and saw that three parked vehicles on Locust Street—the 2023 Toyota Sienna, the 2021 Toyota Sienna, and the 2023 Toyota Rav4—had damage on their driver’s sides. Off the passenger side of her Porsche, Officer Harris saw similar damage, consistent with hitting the parked cars. Additional officers, Cachola, Griffin, Juliano, and Sistaro, soon arrived to help. Lieutenant Centkowski also went to Van Riper Avenue to speak with Joanna after noting the damaged parked vehicles. Suspecting that Joanna was impaired, Lieutenant Centkowski asked her to perform field sobriety tests. The first was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, the lieutenant observed her eyes tracking poorly, with signs of intoxication. He saw nystagmus—rapid eye movements—before 45 degrees and noticed her eyes moving jerkily. Next, he conducted the Walk and Turn test. Joanna failed to touch heel-to-toe properly and took more or fewer steps than she should have. The final test was the One Leg Stand. She couldn’t keep her foot up or hold it steady and put her foot down before finishing the test. Based on the car damage, her own confession to drinking, and her failure on the field tests, Officer Harris arrested Joanna for driving under influence. Her Porsche was seized and kept for 12 hours under the state’s law. She was taken to the Elmwood Park Police Department for more processing. At the station, Joanna was read the standard statement for drivers but refused to take a breath test. She agreed to answer questions, admitting she had been drinking wine before driving. After completing paperwork, the officers released her to her son. The boy signed a form agreeing to watch over her until her court date. Joanna received several tickets. They included charges for operating under influence, refusal to take a chemical test, leaving the scene of an accident with property damage, reckless driving, and careless driving. Court records show that Joanna pleaded guilty to the DUI on June 25, 2024. Her charge for leaving the scene was lowered to failing to report an accident. Because of her plea, she had to use an ignition interlock device for three months, spend 12 hours at a resource center for drunk drivers, and pay $780 in fines. The other three tickets were dropped as part of a plea deal. 0:31 and car accidents 31:13 lowkey impressed bro speaks Polish If you enjoyed this BodyCamBust video.
