Around 1900 a.m. on May 23rd, 2024, patrolman David Flynn with the Rockaway Burough Police Department observed a 2010 Lincoln MKX swerving and refusing to obey a traffic control signal on Church Street. He activated his emergency lights and initiated a traffic stop. He made contact with the driver who was identified as Christina Yaso Ala. As he was speaking with Christina, he detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment. Christina initially denied consuming alcohol but eventually admitted to consuming one drink. Based on his suspicion of impairment, she was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. Hello. Hello. Can I see your license, registration, insurance, please? my insurance. The first exercise was the horizontal gaze nestagmus HGN test. The second exercise was the walk and turn test. During the walk and turn test, Christina failed to touch heel to toe on each step and did not count aloud as instructed. The final exercise was the one leg stand test. During the one leg stand test, Christina failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete. Okay, just so you know, I have a body camera on.
