It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 2:19 a.m. on May 23, 2024, Patrolman David Flynn from the Rockaway Borough Police spotted a 2010 Lincoln MKX weaving on Church Street. The vehicle also ignored a traffic light and seemed out of control. Flynn turned on his sirens and pulled the car over. He approached the driver, identified as Cristina Jasso-Olvera. While talking to her, he noticed the smell of alcohol and saw other signs she might be drunk. Cristina said she hadn’t been drinking, but after some insistence, she admitted to having one drink. Due to concerns she was impaired, Flynn asked Cristina to step out of the vehicle and do some field sobriety tests. The first test was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus, which checks eye movement. Next was the Walk and Turn test. During this, Cristina failed to touch heel to toe properly and didn’t follow the instructions to count aloud. The last test was the One Leg Stand. Cristina struggled to keep her foot up and put it down before finishing the test. Because of her shaky driving and failure to do the sobriety exercises well, Cristina was placed under arrest for drunk driving. Her car was towed and held for 12 hours, per John’s Law. Flynn took her to the police station for more testing. Since the Alcotest machine was broken, they took her to the Rockaway Township Police Department. Cristina refused to give enough breath samples despite trying multiple times. She was charged with refusing the test. Flynn transported Cristina back to the Rockaway Borough Police station. She was later released with a court date scheduled. Flynn also issued her citations for DUI, refusal to take a chemical test, reckless driving, careless driving, unsafe lane changes, failing to keep right, and ignoring traffic signals. Cristina had her first DWI arrest about two months earlier on March 3, 2024, in Roxbury Township. Court records show she pleaded guilty to DUI on November 20, 2024. Her punishment included 48 hours at a driver resource center, two years with an ignition interlock device, 30 days of community service, and two days in jail. She also owed $965 in fines.
