know my friend probably has it but because I'm meeting my friend in um in live like registration around 3:43 a.m. on June 25th 2023 patrolman brick wils with the Magnolia Police Department observed the driver of a 2020 Hyundai driving at a high rate of speed while headed southbound on white horike as he followed the vehicle the driver continued to swerve and nearly struck a bus he activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop and the driver pulled over on Crestwood Avenue near White horike in the neighboring town of sommerdale okay you got the anything right yeah no I have like I have all the stuff but I feel like it's just like so disorganized is this your car yeah yeah yeah okay I just bought this car how long ago um probably like where you coming from tonight hi where at until um like right on you been drinking tonight a little bit yeah what' you have to drink tonight um like two beers just beer yeah just beer do you know your ABCs yeah what's the highest level education you have B all right so I'm going to have you do me a favor okay yeah starting from C to Y see to Y do the alphabet without singing great the driver was identified as 22-year-old Sophie and patrolman Wills told he observed her swerving across Lanes Sophie told the officer that she did not have a valid driver's license patrolman wils detected the odor of alcohol and observed other indicators of impairment she told the officer that she was headed to lynen Wal from haddenfield they would later learn that she drove home all the way back from Philadelphia before subsequently heading towards her friend's house he asked Sophie to recite the alphabet from C to Y but she was unable to do so satisfactorily C to Y mhm Okay C like break down mhm okay c d e f g h i j k q r s no q r s t honestly I don't I don't no I'm going to be honest okay you can give me like a a numerical equation or like any any other like anything but like alphabetically what what's your first name Sophie Sophie you want to step out of the vehicle for me Sophie sure sure based on his suspicion of impairment Sophie was asked to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises after petrolman Paris arrived on scene the first exercise was the horizontal gaze nagus hgn test during the hgn test patrolman wils observed the lack of smooth pursued and distinct and sustained nystagmus at maximum deviation he could not confirm the onset of nystagmus prior to 45° because she was not following his instructions the second exercise was the walk and turn test during the walk and turn test Sophie failed to touch Heel To Toe on each step took an incorrect number of steps and turned improperly the third exercise was the one leg stand test and Sophie failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete that's fine will you uh turn my rear just my rear lights on okay um let me see here o that's like really un I just don't know my sorry follow me over here Sophie okay so let me just explain something to you okay you're just showing just some signs of impairment okay yeah so what I'm going to do I'm going to perform a few tests to make sure you're um able to drive okay okay cuz right now it's kind of it's not looking good but we can do some tests and if you pass we'll get you back on the road okay okay all right Sophie so what we're going to do just walk come over here with me okay I'm going to get you on a flat surface so it's not yeah this is flatter than the back uh just stand about right here okay so the first test I'm going to have you do is the um I'm going test just tou your eyes what was on test okay um so just stand with just your feet together with your hands to your side okay mhm and the tip of my pin here do you see the tip of my pin can you touch it okay just keep uh looking at it with your eyes and Eyes Only okay do you understand that yeah do you have anything wrong with your eyes that are going to affect any of these tests okay I'm going to be excuse me I'm going to begin okay all rightjust your eyes Sophia just my eyes is it Sophie or Sophia just sop sop yeah all right just your eyes Okay mhm okay like I said is called the walk and turn test okay so with the walk and turn test I'm going to demonstrate the walk and turn right so what I'm going to have you do I'm going to have you stand in the starting position and then I'm going to demonstrate the test to you okay okay I'll explain and demonstrate the instructions to you okay so first off pretend there's a line going down this way put your left line yep put your left foot on that line put your left foot on the line like a like a walking line and put your a straight line yeah yeah mhm and I understand yeah okay and then put your right foot in front of your left foot just like this with your hands to your side okay your feel like a straight straight like walk in a straight line yeah yeah what's your question no okay no I know well what I'm telling you is get in the starting I'm telling you get in the starting position now I'm in the starting position no you're not the starting position is left foot fo with your right foot in front of your left foot touching Hill toil with your hands to your side my right do you see how I am I know I know I okay we do hands to your side just like this okay hands to your side my side with your feet like this like mine are I feel like I'm like enrolling in the [ __ ] Army like okay okay yay you good all right stay like that okay I'm going to demonstrate the and explain the test to you okay I just go like left right left right and then yeah it's yeah it's kind of like that but I'm going to explain to you okay explain it go ahead so you're going to take nine Heel To Toe steps okay Heel To Toe like my touching Heel To Toe Touch they have to touch yes listen so I'm going to I'm going to demonstrate after I after I explain the instructions okay so you're going to get both The Best of Both Worlds all right but so you have to be in St starting position so you're going to take nine heel toe steps right mhm at your ninth step you're going to take a series of small steps and take nine heel steps toe steps back to where you started okay so at number nine I just turn around and go back to but I'll explain how you turn around okay it's going to look something like this I'm going to do three steps though for demonstration purposes you're going to do nine I'm going to do three do you understand yes so what this test is going to look like is this okay are you ready yeah it's going to look like this you're going to count alloud too one one you know all the way up to nine okay so so it's going to look like this one one two three this is going to be your ninth step but I'm going to go to like nine nine yes ma'am yeah and turn and then watch the turn it's going to look like like this okay when you get to that ninth step you're going to go pivot pivot yep right and then and then just I'm going to start at one yeah what's that I'm going to start over one yeah yeah yeah yeah all right you think you can do it yeah all right go for it I'm going to go all the way to nine and then pivot around okay yep so go for it one like Heel To Toe what's that Heel To Toe like some serious [ __ ] Heel To Toe my okay one two would your hands to your side though three four five 6 78 9 let's go to 12 okay 10 11 12 okay pivot one two 3 4 five 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 okay all right nextest next test we're going to do is the one leg stand okay one leg so what you're going to do you're going to stand just like me but if he heels touching together with your hands to your side okay on my left or right it doesn't matter it's your choice I like my right leg that's fine okay okay so what I'm like I don't I really don't have so listen give me a DI that's fine all right yeah based on her erratic driving the odor of alcohol her admission to consuming alcohol before driving and her inability to adequately complete the field sobriety exercises patrolman Wills placed Sophie under arrest for driving under the influence the vehicle that she had been driving was impounded for a mandatory 12-hour hold under Jon's law she was transported to the Magnolia Police Department for further processing unfortunately I have to with the test all right just want to put your hand on your back please okay all right like I said you're underr for a [Music] what's up you can talk come on we're going to walk to my car okay like my career 239 my like more just like concerned about what's your I don't know an attorney and stuff like that yeah yeah yeah you'll have your license until you if you're confound guilty or not where we going to we're going go to Magnolia police headquarters do you do you know anybody's number by your heart cuz your phone wasn't in the car okay well somebody has to come pick you up somebody sober has to come pick you up I mean you can call a friend um as long as they're sober sh and 23 I'm 101 any module 66574 all right let's climb out at the Magnolia Police Department Sophie was read the standard statement for motor vehicle operators and agreed to submit breath samples for for testing her Alco test results indicated a back of 0.21% which was almost triple legal limit of 0.08% a few hours later patroman wils made contact with her mother and stepfather at her residence before she could sign the potential shy warning form on Sophie's behalf was that you want should I hop out yeah yeah please get okay but I'm like really worried all right let's go that way right all right take a this way going go up these stairs right here manance or anything no go that take a right and another right right there yeah oh good all right go right up against this gray turn right here turn around I'm going take the cups off you though yeah have a seat right [Music] there here we go in here all right and I were just on the phone we just woke up 5 minutes ago got a phone what we know is that my stepdaughter her daughter um was pulled overing radically well okay I'm got to be a little bit more honest with you she was charge with DUI sorry um that's why I'm here I just get you guys to find sign a form okay um I'll explain the form once she gets over here so I don't explain it twice um it's just a John's law form okay um the officer said that Sophie she didn't call me I think she was trying to call you she was she was scared of you she should be scared of me this is the first time she's done this I kind of felt like that was the case um so she was trying to call him not driving in oh dri she was trying to call you yeah she was trying to call you I think your phone was off I tried to call two a few times and it kept going straight the voicemail yeah so Sophie came home last night that's what she told me I tracked her and so she got in I heard the door open I went to I went to sleep did she leave her phone here is that what the case was cuz she didn't have her phone in the car she didn't have anything in the car really I'm I'm curious let me just see cuz I just I I'm I'm sorry I'm just out of bed I know I I'm I can yeah look she's got her phone here okay is here yeah cuz that's her current location is here so she came home I heard the door open and then I lay back down I was like okay Jack she's good um but I'm so sorry so he pulled her over go ahead I'm you yeah like I said um she's charged with DUI Magnolia Magnolia she's charged with DUI while we were in the station she made a statement obviously I can't get into it but you're person came I just got to get you you're so sweet I'm so sorry no you're fine you're fine that's my job so this is just the Jones law form I just need you to fill out so what it is it makes you liable for her obviously your parents so she can't drive for 12 hours until she's sober um and I'm going to give you example if she were to drive within that 12 hours and got arrested again or got into an accident you'd be charged okay which I mean I trust that you won't let that happen um but that's all this ISS her cars was towed to Magnolia Towing um that's going to be held for I me they're open tomorrow so Monday um she have to get a car you come to our police station for she'd come to our police station first since the car is registered in her name get a toe release for and then she'll have a little magnite toe and they release the vehicle okay and she'll have to pay I guess whatever the yeah to yard is I'm not sure what it I think it's a is that really like what you're is no I'm just running through the details all right um yeah so I just need I'm sorry can you I'm just I'm hearing probably maybe 30% of what you just said so I'm signing this I'm responsible for her so she doesn't drive for 12 hours yes ma'am um and then she's not so have to go back to the police station she does to get her to get a vehicle release um to take to theil yard to get the vehicle out on Monday yeah they're not open tomorrow unfortunately signature person sumon is at me yeah ma'am tomorrow Monday what's not open tomorrow our neither one of us are hearing anything you're saying I'm so sorry I'm on night sorry so tomorrow they will be open so Monday yes Monday see I'm still I'm still in Saturday mode sorry um yeah so both work nice so where was she pulled over um we were pulled over in Magnolia uh right off the White Horse Pike um actually stopped her in sommerdale but I I uh Summerdale the violation was Magnolia and then I C her and summer down yeah that's where Bren Liv Bren Liv she told me she's going to Lal so yeah Bren lives out there yeah do you have your you don't have your I'm assuming you don't have your idea I have idea come on no well well actually what I can do is which three times three times okay all the way home to the CL oh my God sopie was issued the following summonses operating Under the Influence reckless driving careless driving failure to stop at a traffic light failure to give proper signal failure to possess driver license failure to possess driver insurance card failure to possess driver registration and traffic on marked Lanes court records indicate that Sophie was later cited again for leaving the scene of an accident involving property damage in Haden Township New Jersey on on November 19th 2023 she wasn't I'm I'm glad that she got caught I am too and that's why I told her too I was like it's better and I that's why I was telling her when she was trying to call when she was scared to call you cuz I was like she's going to be relieved that
