On July 17th, 2024, police in New Jersey responded to a shoplifting attempt at the Short Hills Mall after a suspect was caught concealing designer sunglasses in a Nike bag. Here are the events that occurred. Excuse me, ma'am. Stop right there. Where? We have one stopped right now outside of MacCP. >> Hi there. Just going to let you know I'm recording. Sergeant with no police. Um, right now I'm detaining you for possible investigation for theft of sunglasses. That sunglasses on. Okay. >> Sunglasses. I can't have what I >> Perfect. All right. You have the right to an attorney. You can't afford one. Won't be provided will be able to be provided to you prior or during any questioning. You understand those rights? Okay. He was associated wearing a white t-shirt, white shorts, black and white shoes, and a black and white baseball hat. Rich, I was going to photograph these. If you could take them back to the store. I found one for Diana. the same one or a different one. >> So, she's saying that um she's saying she only stole these, >> but it's um I'm assuming maybe these are from one store and these from the other. But go for to the um >> with you or see out standing still. >> Um so if you could just whatever divy them up and it's going to do be two separate incidents. So um have Ed do the one up top, you do the incident down low. Um and then um you know the charges will be for each store. So if you could just do the same thing for each statement. Um, you'll get a lot of you can take this bag, carry them in. So, it should be the fix. >> Yeah. Well, I mean, will it be two separate like incidents and [ __ ] So, yeah, I saw her speedwise. She was coming out and uh I guess it has to be her. I was going in to look at mall security video and I parked right there. My god, I don't feel like driving around. Let me just walk in. And then here she comes out. And then I was asking more about the fanny pack and everything and no one [ __ ] let me stop her. All right, man. I'll see you guys. All right, Rich. I'll come. Are you still on? Yeah. All right. After being stopped by police, a store employee identified the suspect as the person who selected two pairs of sunglasses and walked past all points of sale without paying. She was arrested, charged with shoplifting, and released with a date. Additionally, she was barred from the mall for one year.
