Okay. >> Put this on. Okay. Just breathe nor breathe normally. Okay. Slowly breathe slowly. Slowly breathe. Yeah. Yeah. Just breathe normally. Okay. Just try and calm down for me. Just breathe normally. >> Yeah. Don't do that. >> I was. >> Oh, okay. Okay. Okay. >> Whose car is this? That's my >> Were you involved in the accident? >> No. No. No. We just you guys like saw everything out or would you guys be like able to willing to provide a statement? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. I'm just going to move my car a little bit and just park right there for me. Ma'am. Ma'am, you're hooked up to this. Sit down. Sit down. Okay. Sit down. Sit down. Sit down. Sit down. >> How many patients do we have? >> These these two right here. >> Just those two. >> Yeah. Okay. Yeah. They're both in here. Oh my god. They're [ __ ] freaking out. Uh, I guess I don't I don't know the circumstances and how it happened. Two occupants, they're both sitting here. They hit the back of the crash truck. That's all I have now. They're the one girl saying she hit her head off the dashboard. All right. And they're like just kind uh Yes. The one girl's bleeding from her like her head a little bit. She said her head hurts. That was the passenger and then the driver was telling me nothing. >> All right. We had a caller and uh she I was sitting at prospect. The dude came up to me. He was like, "Hey, my crash truck just got hit. Come over there." And I guess that's also when one start going off in this tag when ready. >> Hotel. >> Are you with them? >> Yes. What is your uh >> what's the relationship? >> No, no, I'm with her. I witnessed everything. >> Okay, sounds good. Can you tell me what happened? >> Uh the the big truck was in the process of a U-turn about a K turn, I should say, coming down this way. They just kept going. Just ran right into the the big truck. >> Okay. >> As soon as we got out to help, she ran to throw the liquor the the um >> the bottle over there >> in the bushes. >> Which one? The passenger or the driver? >> The passenger. >> Okay. And they were coming this way. >> They were coming this way. They're coming down. Do you know if they had the red light, green light? >> Um, I want to say >> we had the green light because we had the green light. We had the green light. >> We were waiting for the truck to come past. >> That you could see it. >> You couldn't see it. You can see it from the mile. >> I got you. I'm just asking. Can you guys uh >> We was coming this way and we had the green light. >> Yeah. >> Okay. Were you driving as well? >> Yeah. I was behind them. >> Okay. And same situation more or less. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> It's uh right over here. Let's take a picture of it. You keep it on your >> So there's two cars involved. >> Uh this car and the crash truck. >> Okay. >> The only two patients then All right. Call 94. X-ray Charlie >> and it started probably at uh Eagle Rock. >> Mhm. >> Okay. And then at that point, the one car is a sedan trying to cut off this car and and then they probably continued because if they cut them off there, you'd stop. >> Mhm. >> It continued, I'm guessing, for it to be an accident down here 5 minutes later. >> Yeah. >> And I don't know where the other car left. What What happened? They hit into >> Yeah. So, this truck was doing a K turn cuz they're working down there and this car just came flying from what I'm hearing. So the sedan got off and then they >> we didn't we didn't I didn't see a sedan. >> Yeah. >> That's when it started. >> Well, he was like >> they were speed done. He was already done. So they came and pulled. >> They were I mean >> that's a stretch up there. So no one said, "Hey, you're an [ __ ] and let it go. >> This sucks." But >> but then they was already done. They look they was right there and for them to hit him was going to run. Good to go, officer. >> Yeah, you're all good to go. You got all your info. You saw the car smack into the back of the truck. >> Oh, yeah. She got ejected, too. So, all debris. She got ejected >> from the from the car. She actually got ejected. >> So, you know, >> cuz when we got out, her shoe was over here and she was like laying right like, "Are you okay?" >> All right. But I I heard her say I opened the door. She told them she opened the door. >> She's the driver right there. >> She was stuck. You helped God will help her out the door. >> She was She was >> She was driving. Yeah. She got ejected. She was right where she at. >> Did you see who threw the Who threw the can? >> She did. She did. >> She did. Okay. >> Once I picked like once I I got out the car, I'm like, "Are you okay?" Okay. Okay. She was like this. Then she ran to the driver's seat. She ran to the passenger and then she went over there and I heard something clink clink. So when I looked, I saw that's when I saw the bottle of liquor. >> All right. So driver, she threw the can over there. >> I appreciate it. You guys are good to go. >> Thank you so much. >> Be safe, bro. >> Yep. Take care. So, talking to some of the witnesses, the one with the braids supposedly got ejected. She was the driver. The one with Subie. Sorry. The one with braids, she got ejected. She was the passenger. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> That was the driver over there. The one with the braids through the can. There's like a little alcohol can by the tree over there. >> I don't know if anybody looked in the car. >> Mhm. What do you see? >> Um there's an alcoholic beverage on the floor on the passenger side. >> There's one. And someone, one of them threw it by the tree, too. >> All right. I just want to make sure you know there's a vent pipe in the driver's side in the front. >> Okay. >> Like here, but on the driver's side. >> And where'd you see that came out? >> Um, under >> the airbag. >> The airbag. Cuz I was looking for her shoe. One shoe was out here, but the other one was missing. And I lifted it up and there's >> supposed to real quick. >> It's like um a can of margarita, but I didn't look. Is it open? Is it margarita mix? Is it our >> cuz I didn't want to handle it cuz I knew you guys would be doing it. >> I got underneath. >> All right. I'll let them know. >> On the other side then there's this cup, but I don't know what's in it. >> All right. on the other side there's like a Wendy's plastic cup and little >> thank you Heat. Heat. this the passenger. >> Yeah. >> Well, and she's the one who hit her head. >> Okay. Yeah. >> She's the one who had So, I would definitely want to get >> I would push her to go if she doesn't want to go. >> Yeah. >> The driver doesn't want to go either. But >> is she >> Bailey? Can you get her stop walking around here to come back? >> Is she injured in any way, shape, or form? >> Excuse me. Is she injured in any way, shape, or form? >> She did have the gas on her head, but I would recommend to get checked out. >> So, she probably hit her head on the windshield because of that spidering on the passenger side. >> She has blood on her head. >> As far as you can tell, it's just bodily injury right now, right? Like a small injury, not like significant bodily injury where it be like >> protracts significant. Although I didn't talk to her, I heard some conversation with her and she seems coherent. >> Okay. And I think she's upset, which anybody would be, but I think it's just following drink. But >> sorry, one second. >> Just have park for now. We're going to stand by in the tow for a second. >> I told one of the other officers, um, I noticed she had one shoe. >> Mhm. >> Over there. >> Here's the turning point. The driver finally admits they shared two 13% cutwaters. She's only 20 and she's behind the wheel after drinking. She's emotional, scared, talking about how she's not from around here, but the honesty comes too late. Underage drinking plus driving is a recipe for disaster. And tonight, it caught up with her in the worst way. >> And the other shoe missed. So, I gave her the shoe. And then I looked in here and found the other one under the airbag. And there is an alcoholic beverage under there. A can of margarita something. I didn't handle it too much because I didn't >> Okay. >> want to interfere with what you guys need to do. >> Um there's a big pipe in the door on the driver's side in in this compartment. >> You went through the entire vehicle. >> Well, the doors are open, so I'm just looking. >> Okay. >> So, >> Okay. Thank you. >> Yeah. Sorry. L E A N E T. >> That's my first. >> Sorry. >> You certified, huh? You certified our stuff. All right. All right. >> It's looking like neither one of them are going to go. So, >> soon as we get their info, we'll get the hell out of here. >> Sounds good. The field tests are tough to watch. She struggles with basic coordination, refuses parts, and the cuffs come out. What gets me is how fast a night out just looking at the view turns into a rest, tow truck, and court dates. One bad decision behind the wheel can change everything. What's your >> Who the [ __ ] would have >> James? >> Yes. >> The cops. >> I'm trying to see if she wants to go to the hospital. Well, I mean, both of their blood pressures are high, their heart rate's high, but you know, that's expected. >> Okay. >> But still, I'd rather them get checked on >> 100%. Otherwise, like, you don't see any injuries or anything on there on her? >> No. No, she's not. She has no pain. She had she had a head laceration, right? >> Yeah. Head laceration. And >> you can see on the windshield, it looks like she had >> She said she her head against She's not concerned about anything. Just like hangs out like, you know, >> your head mine's fine. So, do you guys want to go to the hospital on >> She said herself. >> Yeah, it's the passenger. >> Um, which one do the witnesses have as the passenger? >> So, a lady from this house said that the one with the teal shorts was a passenger and she threw it. >> Another witness I spoke to was uh he was in Newok. Um he said the passenger was the one with the breeds and she was the one that threw the gun by the tree. Supposedly there's another one on the floorboard in the passenger side. >> Yeah. So we haven't collecting statements who the driver is. >> Yeah. Well, I mean, just going to go off the basic injuries then. She has looks like she hit her head in the windshield and she got the cut in her head. >> Mhm. >> The one with the braids. >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> So, and she's the one in the teal shorts saying she was the one driving. So, >> the totality of it. >> Come over here. Come. Come sit over here. Okay. Come sit over here. Come sit over here. >> It's kind of >> Just sit down. Take a seat. Take a seat. Take a seat. >> We were We were passing down and she couldn't slow down. My heading and it was on his way to her. >> Okay. Uh so obviously the car crash you have very high blood pressure and very high rate. You know, it's just such a shocking, as you can see, a shocking experience based on the fact that you just said that you hit your head on the dashboard or it is just a dash. I highly recommend for you to get it checked out. Uh come here, not inside. Uh just, >> you know, see if everything's okay. >> Yeah, sure. And you can get someone to bring it to you. That is okay. That is my recommendation. You're here. You're 5 minutes right here. So unless they tell you why I can't force you to go, but I recommend it because you just get based on Okay. So your friend I don't think wants to go. >> It's up to you. We recommend what you should do, but There. Huh? >> It's looking like neither one of them are going to go. So, >> soon as we get to we'll get the hell out of here. >> Sounds good. I'm just looking. That was very um hopefully There's another open There's another can of some sort under the air bag on the passenger side. >> Does this belong to >> That's mine. >> That's mine. >> And that's too. >> Yeah, that's mine. >> Okay. So you're related to one of them. Heat. Heat. All right. Can I talk to you for a second? >> All right. You want to tell me what happened? >> So, um, the light was turning yellow, but it was still yellow when we were going through it. And then the truck was turning it. I guess it was on maybe a turn on red or whatever was turning. It was too late. Tried to break. >> Okay. So, you guys were coming down Mount Prospect. Yep. >> And this guy was coming like >> from from that street or from here >> from here on camp and >> I don't know if it was a turn on red but the light was still yellow. Okay. >> Just try to slow down because we're too close. >> All right. Where are you guys coming from tonight? >> Um >> Okay. All right. What are you guys heading? >> Trying to go get some food. We're just going to look around and explore. >> Okay. >> Do you have Do you have an ID on you? I >> actually don't, which is why I was on the phone with my father because he to the hospital, but I don't have my insurance card on me, which is my ID. >> Do you want to go to the hospital? Um, they recommended me too with the dash on my head. >> Yeah. >> Do Do you want to go? Are you going to go? >> Um, if they recommend me to, I think I should. So, I just go with I'm not going to read my friend. We're not party at all. >> Okay. What's your name? >> Kennedy Jackson. >> Can you spell it? >> K E N E D Y. >> J A C K. >> K E N E D Y. That's your first name. >> Kennedy. >> All right. What's your last name? J A C K S O N. >> All right. What's your date of birth? >> All right. Where do you live at? >> All right. What's your phone number? >> What were you guys doing up at Rock? Just >> looking at the name. >> That's it. Nothing else. Okay. >> Like um I live the street from Uber Lag. So that's like a common place that like you know >> people go to. We're just we're just like you know trying to catch a view. We both just wanted to hang out today and just >> and then we were on our way back over here cuz she was like we want to find some food and then >> yeah. >> Okay. >> How do you guys know each other? >> Um we've been friends for about um over a year. Um, she used to she's used to date my boy best friend. >> Okay. >> Um, we're not together anymore, but that's how we met. So, we've been friends since about last May in 2024. >> We friends for over a year. >> I got you. I got you. And you're in the passenger seat, right? >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I'm not driving right now. My license. >> Okay. Yeah, it's fine. Still hang out for a second. You have everyone's information. Are you good? >> I have uh Yeah, I have their >> Okay. You don't need them anymore at this moment in time. >> We're just going to get them signed to RMA if they don't want to go. >> Okay. Daddy >> Daddy came with >> they told me that they're going to take me to the hospital, but I don't have my insurance card on me. It's in my >> Are you sure? Why are you yelling? Why are you yelling at me? Like, >> did I hit them or did they hit me? >> So, we're still talking to everyone about who witnessed the accident. Okay. But if you're okay, can I just talk to you over here for a second? >> Can we on the phone with your parents? >> Yeah. On the phone with your parents? >> Yeah. >> Hello. >> Let's walk over here. >> Hello. >> Hello. >> Yeah, I'm I'm with the cop right now. >> Just walk on sidewalk over here. I came from Sierra. Sierra Sierra. >> Um, she just want She just wants to know like >> I have no health insurance. Hold on. That I have no health insurance. >> Okay. >> So, she wants to know if it's like if it's covered or not. Like I'm about to get a new job. >> I'm sorry. What? >> You said you don't have you don't you no health insurance. What was the word after that? Yeah, I have no health insurance. I'm about to get a new job at the hospital. >> About to pay for like all this and that. >> I see her sign. >> You feel me? >> Okay. I I hear you. >> Me and you. >> Mhm. >> Um me and her like, >> you mind just staying seated for me? >> She's mute though. >> I understand. >> No. Yeah. Stay seated for me. >> You were involved in an accident. I don't want you walking around. >> She's on mute. She's on mute right now. >> Okay. Um, she wanted to know like >> what's just what's going on. Like >> no, I understand. >> I don't know what the [ __ ] is going on. Like I'm not from down here. We was dead ass at her crib. >> Okay. Is that where you guys were coming from? >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And we're about to just go back. >> I drove this part so many times. >> Mhm. >> I never met Okay. I don't Do you know where Mac I do know what Mac does. >> Okay. I'm sorry. I just wanted to know. Okay. Mac means like, you know. >> Yeah. >> Okay. >> I never Mac down here. Like I I've been down here like her. Okay. I I know her through her best friend. >> Mhm. >> And I dated her best friend for a year. >> You feel me? So I've been down here. her his mom lives up the street. >> Ricky lives here. >> Not up not main street, but like the I don't I don't know the streets down here. >> Okay. So, you guys were hanging out today? >> Yeah, we were hanging out. We were drinking for room. >> Okay. Where were you coming from? >> Where you coming from? It's like Eco Rock. >> Okay. What are you guys doing up there? >> We're just going to go back to her crib. >> Mhm. >> On some chill [ __ ] She's talking about some, oh, they're about to back into us. >> Okay. >> I'm like, okay, I'mma just pull over this and that. Okay, we back. >> I never wanted to m >> I understand. Um, you mentioned uh you said you weren't drinking, evil rock. >> No, we we were drinking, but we weren't drinking like OD like >> Okay. >> So, what'd you have to drink today? >> Like, I'm not going I'm not going to lie. Like, [ __ ] If you were to like [ __ ] breathalyze us, >> you going to know what it was. You feel me? I'm not going to lie. >> I got you. >> Like we had we had a cup water. You know, you know what cup water is? >> It's like 13%. >> Mhm. >> Two of those. But we shared it. >> Okay. >> We went upstairs to the crib. We ate. Came down. Back. We went back to Eagle Rock. Then we we didn't find no parking. Like we wanted to get like the view parking. We didn't find it. We left. >> Okay. Okay. >> And then we didn't find them. And then we left. >> It's just like mushes. >> Um when was >> total? >> When did you guys have the cutwaters? >> What time? >> Yeah. Do you remember? >> Um I left. Okay. I left from Elizabeth >> 5 something. So by the time I get down here, it's maybe 6 6:30. >> Okay. >> Around there. I met her at her crib, picked her up. We chilled at Eagle Rock for a little bit. We didn't drink. >> Okay. >> Then we went to the, you know, um I'm sorry. >> No, it's fine. You had you had the last cup water around 5:30, you said? >> No, we didn't drink before that, but I put up on her. I picked her up, went to Eagle Rock. >> Mhm. >> We chilled. >> Then went to Eagle Rock. >> You know that little liqu store >> on Eagle Rock? >> Yeah. >> What's it called? Um >> I don't remember the name of it. Small place, right? >> Yeah. >> Yeah. >> The little Indians. >> Mhm. >> Yeah. black. >> Okay. >> And you don't remember what time you had that train? >> I'm sorry. My [ __ ] >> I can't even get my water from the car, bro. Like, >> is there anything in the car you need? >> I want my water bottle. >> Okay. Well, >> I just [ __ ] up. >> We can get that for you. So, you don't remember the last time you had a drink? >> I haven't drink since I'm good, but it's just like >> Okay. Since when though? Oh, you haven't given me that time yet? >> No, since like 2 hour 2 3 hours ago. >> Okay. >> Cuz I got her food. >> I got her food at you. You You could pull it up. >> I You could literally go to [ __ ] Wendy's. The Wendy's. >> Did you have anything to eat as well? >> No, I'm good. I got her Wendy's. >> When's the last time I to eat? >> I I ate myself. My parents got Domino's. >> Okay. And that was that was >> Elizabeth 12:30. >> That was good. Okay. >> I didn't want nothing else. I got her food. >> I was just I just wanted to chill. I just wanted to pull up just for a little view. This and that. >> I gotcha. Okay. So, just I know it's a very stressful thing, right? Cuz you're Did you hit your head at all or anything like that? You're not injured at all in any way? >> No. >> Okay. And you said how old are you? >> I'm 20. >> Okay. Is there any reason I can be 21? Is there any reason you drink alcohol under the age of 21? >> Yes, I did. >> Do you know why? Can you tell me why? >> Just cuz there's no reason. I just They're allowed down here. >> Okay. >> So, only because um you're in an accident. Okay. And you had some alcohol or drink. >> Okay. We're just going to run some test. >> My car though. >> No, your car is right here. >> Yeah, but I have stuff in here. Can I Can I get my stuff? >> Yeah, we can we can do that later. We just have to make sure you're okay. Okay. >> I'm good, but I'm just >> Okay. But again, just because you were you got into an accident, you had >> and no one is pulling up like >> I understand. >> I called him. He never came up. >> Okay. So again, just because you had some I No, I get you. I get you. >> Okay. We're going to do the testing over here on the sidewalk. Okay. Officer Dy's going to help walk you through it. Okay. Okay. It's not going to be you. >> No, it's not going to be me. >> Okay. So, can you point me to him? Yeah. Officer Dy's right here. Walk to the sidewalk. Okay. Um, I'm just going to move my car real quick. >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Just stay there for me. Okay. >> I'm sorry. >> No, it's okay. It's okay. Are you okay? >> Yeah. I'm just sad. >> Okay. All right. >> Like, do you want you want to tell me what happened tonight? >> Um, no. Where am I? >> Okay. >> Where are my gun? >> I met with Kennedy. Okay. Do you know Kennedy? >> Uh, yeah. The girl was the girl. Yep. She was in your car with you. >> We were good. >> We was chilling at West Orange for like maybe 2 3 hours. We were good. >> What were you guys doing when you were there, >> bro? They're just looking at the view. >> Okay. We did drink a little bit. >> Okay. >> It wasn't OD. >> No, I know. I know. What did you guys have to drink? >> We just had cup waters. That's it. >> Cut waters. Okay. About how many did you have? >> Two. That's it. It's not enough to like get you drunk. >> But then it's like we was pulling back down. >> Yep. But before I I came I came down super I don't live down here. >> Okay. Where do you live at? >> I live in Elizabeth. >> In Elizabeth. >> Yes. >> Okay. >> And she told me she came she drank with Joe. >> Okay. Who's Who's Joe? >> Joe is like Okay. So, um are you from down here? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. So, um you know like Main Street? >> Yep. You know Papa John's? >> Yeah. Yeah. >> Okay. Papa John's. And then there's like a little barber shop. >> Okay. >> You You know the barber shop? >> Yeah. Yeah. In West Lounge. >> Yeah. There's a barber shop right there. That's where she's at. He does haircuts. He does this and that. But he be there for like a long time. I didn't see him that night, but she did. >> And that was earlier today. >> Yes. >> Okay. She already has some shots with him. I didn't. I came sober. >> Yeah, I got you. >> I'm sorry. >> No, I know. I know. >> All right. We're going to stand. We're going to come over here. Okay. >> I'm sorry. My shoes like that. >> I know. I know. I know. It's okay. We're going to come over here. Okay. >> I I just stand like he's not coming back for me. >> I know. Who's not coming back for you? >> Pat. >> Who's Pat? >> That's my boyfriend. >> Okay, I got you. I'm just gonna turn my lights off real quick. >> Just have her face this way. But the lights coming like >> Okay. >> He's been coming for me. Like I I just want We'll figure it out. We'll figure it out. >> You're good. No, I just Can you do me a favor? Stand right here. >> No, you're good. >> I just want this on top of comfort. >> I know. I know. Just stand right here. Okay. >> No, I'm good. I'm good. >> I know. I know. Can you stand? So, you know, see how I'm facing like right now and stand right in front of me and don't face me. Do what I'm doing. Face me. Face me. Turn around. >> Oh, turn around. >> Okay. All right. Good. There you go. >> All righty. So, because of everything that happened tonight, we're just going to do some tests, okay? To make sure that you're uh you're okay to drive. I understand you said you had uh >> No, I don't want to drive. >> I know. I know. But because of the c the situation that happened, I just have to do some tests with you. Okay. Do you have any are you >> I'm totally I don't want to drive. >> I know. I understand that. I understand that. Okay. >> Mhm. >> All right. Do you have any uh any any medical problems that I should know about? >> No, I don't. >> And any problems with your eyes? >> No. >> Anything? Uh because >> I have the glasses for a reason cuz I can't [ __ ] see. But >> Yeah. No, I I understand. I I see the I see the glasses. >> Are you injured at all from the accident? >> Uh I don't think so. No. >> You don't think so? >> No. >> Okay. All righty. So, we're just going to we're going to do we're just going to do a couple tests. Okay. >> Okay. >> All right. So, the first one is I'm just going to test your eyes. Okay. Just uh can you just take your glasses off? >> Up here? >> Yeah. Yeah, up there. It's fine. What you want to do is uh stand with your feet together, arms to your side. Okay. That's not a poo. >> Doesn't look like a pill. >> It looks like a poop to me. >> No, it's a piece of plastic. >> It's a piece of plastic. >> Y must not know what's going on down here. >> This isn't our police station. >> This is Cedar Grove. River where >> our Our police station is getting remodeled. So, we don't have a police station. >> Where are we right now? >> We're in Cedar Grove. >> Cedar Grove? >> Cedar Grove? That's where I told you when we were driving here, >> bro. Are we not from down here, so I thought we was in West Orange. >> No, we're like a mile from West Orange. >> The [ __ ] >> West Orange is down the street. >> I live in Elizabeth. I'm damn near 10 miles from here. >> That's not that far. >> It's not that far. But yeah, the cops down here like they they move different down from like down here over there. Like down there it's like mad. It's it's a lot of like I'm going to say violence. It's a lot of shooting. It's a lot It's a lot of It's It's way more like It's way more active down there than over here. That's what I'm saying. Like you know >> it's a big city down there. >> It is. But it's also active down there. Like it's always something going on. >> What is this? A camera? >> Yeah, it's my body cam. >> Oh, okay. >> Cuz I get on the computer. So, >> uh, so she she's my check out mouth and everything. She's good. >> Yeah. Piercing's out, right? >> 09. >> I took everything. >> Didn't eat anything since you took that. I haven't ate. No, I haven't ate anything since like 12 something >> in the afternoon. >> Afternoon. Yes. >> What did you eat? >> Pizza. I got Domino's. >> What kind of slice? >> I had chicken and bacon. >> Oh, chicken bacon. >> Pepperoni and bacon. >> I'm sorry. Can someone clean my glasses? >> I don't I don't have I don't got nothing. I'm sorry. Yo, you you know I can't clean my glasses just cuz of this. Like >> we we don't have anything for it to clean them with. >> Oh my god, guys are like, >> do you want to start punching yourself in the machines? >> Do we have a print out here? >> I'm not acting much. I'm just saying my glasses. You can't do that. This is This is me and Rivera. >> Okay. Yeah. No, we're just uh wrapping up processing her now. It shouldn't be too much longer. >> Okay. We can take her with us after that. >> Yeah. Um who's going to be the one taking responsibility over here? >> Her mom right here. The mom and the dad is in the bathroom. >> Okay. Uh do you have an ID that I can just grab real quick? All right. Thank you. >> All righty. Take that. Here's your uh your ID back. And then uh so what this this form is it's the it's the potential liability form. Okay. It's basically you're just have to you're responsible for essentially for the next 12 hours. You just you're not allowed to let her get behind the wheel and if you do you can be charged. Just uh if you want you can just uh read all this and then just uh sign here. Okay. >> First question. Where's the car at? >> It got towed. >> Where did it get towed to? Uh that I don't have the answer to right now, but uh it's on top. >> Looking at it. Yeah. Yeah, probably. >> Yeah, cuz all the airbags went off. The front end was wrecked pretty good. So, I don't I don't know definitively. I can't say 100%, but it it it was it wasn't pretty good. Uh can I have your phone number? All right. Thank you. Just uh she shouldn't be too much longer. Okay. Go ahead after. >> Yeah, she's fine. So, uh we're just finishing up processing her. Whenever she's uh whenever the other officer's uh all done, she'll be released to you guys and with a with a court date. Okay. >> Over here. >> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. No. All right. Well, I don't like the other officer's dealing with her, but I'll let her uh I'll let her know that you guys are here. Okay. All right. Thank you. >> Thank you. All right. Uh, question for you. So, one of the, uh, witnesses that was on scene said that whenever the accident happened, they saw you throw a can out of the car. Uh, officer found it. Uh, does anything like that sound familiar? Were you guys drinking in the car? >> No. No, you didn't throw a can of the car. >> Don't know why someone would have said that. >> Okay. >> I was literally distraught when I got out the car. I couldn't even see. It was foggy. I couldn't breathe. How would I even be able to do that? >> Okay. So, you guys weren't drinking in the car? >> No. >> No reason why there'd be a cut water or someone said that anything like that. That's not what you were drinking. >> Okay. Uh, another question for you. Were you wearing a seat belt? >> Pretty sure. >> You're pretty sure cuz it's it's apparent that you hit the windshield of the car. So, were were you wearing one or or were you not wearing your seat belt? >> I just flew forward. That's all. >> It was a very hard impact. >> Okay. Do you know like about how fast you guys were going? >> Um um maybe the speed limit is about 40 on that road. We were going around that the light was still yellow when she went. >> He was turning at the same time. The light was yellow. >> He wanted to know we weren't there. So he wanted to know like the accident who was fault. >> We don't do fault in New Jersey is a no fault state. >> So like I mean obviously like the report's going to be the report >> and whatnot. She's, you know, she's driving on vamp alcohol that, you know, is going to play a factor. >> Yeah. And he says that let's say she was drunk, right? Um, if the light was yellow and the light had a chance to stop, like that's why he's like, >> so the other the other jar was saying too is they they weren't turn they were like they were going straight. They were traveling extremely slowly. There's there's road work going on. So, there was construction going on. That vehicle is actually designed for, you know, this kind of purpose because, you know, workers get killed all the time in motor vehicle accidents and whatnot, which is why like police are always involved in other construction. It's a county road. They were actually working on on the state highway, too. So, that's the reason why the crash truck was there. So, it was move it was traveling the same direction that they were traveling just at a slow rate of speed. It's a little bit of a curve where the accident happened. So that's probably, you know, what that's based off my investigation and my experience, that's going to be what happened is the crash truck was moving at a slow rate of speed and they were, you know, traveling at a higher rate of speed down the hill around negotiating that little curve there and they weren't able to uh to slow down in time and they uh they hit that they hit that crash truck. Mhm. So then um that's what he's confused about because in New Jersey when he got into an accident, they would have got the camera footage and see who was at fault. So that's like, >> you know, like that's like like we're gonna we're doing our investigation. We're going to be pulling cameras. We're gonna we're going to do all that stuff, but it's like the insurance companies are the ones that decide fault. We don't we don't decide fault. We're we're factfinders. We >> Yeah. Yeah. We're going to see we're going to see everything happen. >> Okay. You know, that's that's fine. Yeah. >> Okay. So then in the police report, there should be like the drawing and everything like yep. All that all that stuff's going to be there. >> And when she has court, is it in this town or is it >> in North Caldwell? So we're going to have all that. >> Yeah, it's before we release you. I'm going to explain everything. If you guys have any questions, I'm going to explain everything for you guys so you guys you guys understand >> where the car is. Uh so for the ne so because the car so the car was towed because obviously accident all that stuff blah blah blah but even if I just did a motor vehicle stop and this devolved into me placing her under arrest for driving on the influence the car is now impounded under what's called John's law. So that's a part of like with the paperwork that you signed is for so that car isn't able to be released because it was involved in uh the a driving mall intoxicated incident for the next I believe it's 12 hours. So in order to get the car released, you'd have to go to our headquarters, get the release form, and bring it to the tow company. But it's also it's also more likely not to it's it's it's kind of a more complex situation now cuz it's not just you know a motor vehicle stop with you know an arrest because of drunk driving. There was an accident which we responded to and then you know the situation devolved into you know she's operating the car while drunk. >> Okay. >> All right. Just do me a favor. Hang tight for a little bit longer. She they're still doing the uh the testing processes with her. Okay. She'll be able to >> Yeah, she Yeah, she'll be able to after 12 hours she'll be able to like drive and whatnot. She'll be able to like go and go to our headquarters, get the release forms and whatnot in order to get the car released that that the insurance company >> to like take possession of the car >> cuz we were supposed to go to the hospital and >> you guys refused you guys refused medical attention. >> You guys put her in handcuffs. So, I said I wasn't going to the hospital anymore because my friend was in handcuffs. >> So, you guys refused medical attention. You were like allowed to go to the hospital >> but not without her though. I wasn't I made that clear. I was going to work without her. So, she hasn't seek any medical attention. >> So, she refused medical attention. >> Okay. >> So, I have a question. So, you said the car was like probably not even >> Yeah. So, every single airbag was deployed. The front end was extremely damaged, leaking fluids everywhere. It looked like there was a bunch of stuff wrapped up underneath. Like when the car got towed away, I wasn't there. So, I don't know how bad exactly the damage was, but the car was disabled, not able to be driven. >> So, she couldn't have pulled off after that. The car is just it was stuck. It was over. >> Yeah. No, you can't. That car would not have I mean, you could have like moved it, but it was not operate. You couldn't operate it. Say like you it probably the wheels probably wouldn't turn like the way the wheels were. It looked like probably the axles were the axles were snapped. So, the car is disabled. It needs to go to a body shop before you can >> It's going to need to get towed out of whatever lot it's in. >> You don't know if it's totally >> I'm not a mechanic. I don't do I'm not that's not like my job. But looking at it, it is extremely extremely damaged. >> Everything inside. This is the airbag. >> Typically, whenever the airbags go off, the insurance company totals the car. >> Okay. >> Oh, definitely. There's no one's going to take it the night before. >> No. >> All righty. So, she has all the paperwork she needs. The uh Can I see the tickets? Yeah. >> So, she has a uh she has a court date August 21st at 4:30. It's at North Caldwell Court, 141 Gold Avenue, North Caldwell. If you have any questions, that's the number. Okay. >> All right. >> That's it. Is there any information on the car? >> Uh, it's at Mountain Auto Body in Verona. In order to get the car released, you need to come to the Verona Police Department, get to get a release form. Okay. >> It's in Ver It's at Mountain Auto Body in Verona. Not on auto body in you want to put that down. Not >> you have to come to us first. >> Yeah. You got to get a You got to get a release form from us. >> Okay. You can go tomorrow between uh like normal normal business hours. They should be open >> tomorrow. Any questions? >> The cops are at the car. >> No, they wouldn't let me get get caught in the charge at the car, but I got it. >> Any questions? >> Okay. All right. Thanks for coming. I'm good.
