Today on Alpha Responder Network. I am telling you he didn't do anything. She's got all over her neck. And I got so mad I hit my glass and I had my hand on her and I swear. State of Arizona has zero tolerance. All right. I really am worried about him. Please don't say me. Join us as we ride along with the nation's bravest alpha responders. This is Alpha Responder Network. [Music] [Applause] [Music] My name is Devin Godfrey. I work for Mojave County Sheriff's Office. You know, seeing seeing that one kind of uh is a little bit different. Came out over dispatch as a female subject running into the gas station very emotional, crying, very distraught. She was so distraught, she ran to the bathroom. She was hiding in the bathroom. First things that kind of come to your mind is, you know, why why is somebody reacting that way? It's a bigger gas station. People are coming from all throughout the United States on I40. You know, what happened on the highway? What could possibly have to taken place to make somebody react like that? Just from the small information provided from the call notes, it gets your brain going. If say this is a hostage situation, the person they were just holding hostage is now free. And now we have somebody that is a very bad person on the loose in that area. Is a suspect armed? They have a gun the entire time that they held this person inside this vehicle. So that's why as soon as I saw I said, "Hey, you know, let's um let's head up that way." That's a call that can very much so turn into something very big very fast. What's going on, man? How are you? Good. How are you? I'm doing just fine. Um, we were first on scene. Uh, talking to her, you know, it was apparent. It was, it was very apparent. She was emotionally distraught. How are you? Good. How you doing? Good. What's going on? Um, I'm okay. Okay. Yeah. Well, what's going on? I just just like my boyfriend just took my phone and I freaked out and I wanted to get it back. Okay. And I was in the bathroom. And you were in the bathroom. Is there anything else going on that you want to talk to us about? Are you sure? Where's your boyfriend at now? I'm not sure. You're not sure? I think he took off. Think he took off? Okay. What was he driving? I don't know. You don't know what he was driving? I can't tell. So, you don't want to give us any information in reference to it? No. Okay. Where are you guys coming from? Where are you guys headed? Okay. So, you just do not want to speak to us at all. Okay. Do you have that right? She was very closed off. She was very hesitant. I mean, didn't even want to give up her name. Do you have any injuries to you or anything? Okay. Do you have an ID I can grab from you? Do you don't want to provide me any identification or anything like that? No. Okay. But but you're okay and you're not in any danger. Is there anything we can do for you at all? No. Put some marks on your neck. Can we take you anywhere? No. No. We can't take you anywhere. We can't give you a ride anywhere. Feed left. I'm just I'll call someone if I have to. You'll call somebody if you have to. Honey, I've been in your situation. We need you to talk to him, darling. That's the only way we can help. Yes, there's only one way. I don't want to. It was very apparent. She was going through a lot, but didn't want to say much. You know, you can tell a person that has a lot going on in their head and wants to say what's going on, but also is scared. She wanted to say, um, but there was something stopping her. I'm not saying anything. I know. And I was just telling her as a parent, I mean, we don't know who you are or who he is. You know what I'm saying? And if something happens after you leave here, there's nothing for anybody to go on. And we're we're not we're not here to judge you. We're not here to we're not here to, you know, even get him in trouble. If we there's nothing to get him in trouble, there's nothing we get in trouble. But the biggest thing is just trying to help you because like he's trying to say is what if you do leave here and something does happen. Do you want to tell talk to me about anything? No. Okay. Do you want to provide me your name or anything? No. Okay. Then I hope you get to where you're going safe and you have your phone with you now. You have a way of contacting 911 if anything happens. Correct. Okay. Then that's all we can ask. If you need anything else from there and call you need to contact 911 and go from there. Okay. Okay. Okay. Thank you. She's crying. She's upset. But doesn't want to give a single statement. Doesn't want to tell us where she's coming, where she's going. Doesn't want to tell you what he's driving. doesn't want to say a single word about anything that took place. She does have a phone on her. When I first walked in there, I asked her what was going on. She said something about um she wanted her phone. Her boyfriend didn't want to give up her her phone, but instantly she shut down right then. That was it. Can you try talking to her? Yes. You're the manager, correct? You guys have cameras we can review by any chance? Yeah. Do Did you see her come in with anybody? No, I was in the bathroom and I got a phone. I got a call on the radio like, "Hey, get to the freaking register now." And all I saw when I came out the door was her screaming running through the store crying straight into the bathroom and he came in behind her. There was a there was a guy though. Oh yeah. He came in behind her and she stopped him and said, "No, you need to go back outside." And um I just stood in front of the bathroom. But we don't know what he was driving or anything like that. Do you know what he looked like? I stayed inside. He was wearing a brown shirt. I didn't look back at the video. I don't know what he was driving. I didn't see him drive off or anything. She's got freaking scratches all over her freaking neck. That's my biggest That's my biggest feeling. You know, she wanted to leave and I said, "Hey, I feel better. Please just stay and talk to somebody." And she's like, "I'm not going to say anything." I said, "It's fine, but here's the thing. If you leave, something happens." Correct. We have nothing to go on. We don't even have a name at this point. You know, so it like as a as a father of girls, trust me, I would rather you stay here and just give us something. Yeah. Something to go. While standing there talking to the manager, while they were trying to get some information, the manager looks over and goes, "Hey, that's I believe that's the suspect. That's the guy that she came in with. You going to talk to him? this one. Hey man, so that's my girlfriend. I have dated her for a long time. We got into a fight and I I just panicked in the car and I like I didn't know how to deal with like a panic attack and I started like yelling at her, you know, getting mad and then I was just we got in the car and we were driving cuz you know we're doing cross country and I got so mad I hit my glass and I had my hand on her and I squeezed really hard and like she said pull over and I was going really fast and it wasn't safe. So right then and there, you know, you can obviously see that his his um mindset where his mind was where his mindset was. I mean, he was a obviously was going through some stuff as well. But of course, right then and there, we obviously have a domestic incident and we need to handle that as so. But I didn't like I didn't I didn't do anything wrong. She's very scared. She's terrified of me. I asked her like if you want me to leave you here, I will. I just like I can show you my texts. I really don't want any [ __ ] knowledge when I get to my job. Like I'm a student. If you're a business owner, listen up. The sponsor of this video, Crimshield, helps protect your business by letting you know exactly who is working for you. I'm literally just doing cross country drive. She lives in SF. I'm from Atlanta. I've got a job um in San Francisco, an internship and we just want to do something fun together. And this is like reality right now. And I just I want everything to be okay. I've been sending her voice messages just like just trying from like you guys previous arguments or anything like that. That's not for her. But yeah, just, you know, I just been like trying to talk to my mom like see what you do. Like obviously she's terrified and it's so terrifying. Like I was sitting in my car and I saw two cop cars driving and I was like what the [ __ ] Like what's happening? So right now on the Galaxy we got a call because she's screaming and then you guys are were chasing her to the store and that's all we got to call our concern that something's going on, right? No, I So what happened was I was waiting just at the bathroom for her to come out and she's not telling anything, but she's got all over her neck like so I just like her phone was there so I just like all right come on let's go. So, I grabbed her phone like and I just like ran out of that and then I was expecting her to come and just started chasing after me, calling for help. I was like, "Holy shit." I gave her the phone like immediately and I just stepped outside. I was like, "Please tell me outside." So, right now, man, wait. No, no, wait. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. So, based off of the statements that she made to us and everything like that right now. Okay. Wait, what? Did she made a statement? Yeah. Is she trying to put me like No, she's not trying to do anything, man. But right now, it's domestic violence. You guys are together, okay? In the state of Arizona, this is zero tolerance, all right, for anything domestic violence. Okay. I didn't know that. Can I please? No. Not at this point, dude. Please. Stop. Please. Please. They're arresting me. Stop. Don't make it harder on yourself. You're going to catch a resisting charge if you do. The manager advises that there was camera footage of the incident. You see the female subject walk into that store crying, very emotional, walking straight to an employee trying to get her to, you know, help her. You see the female subject walk to the bathroom and then you see him and then he walks into that female bathroom. And we counted a total of seven times that that male subject would walk into that female's bathroom, out of that female's bathroom, and back into that bathroom with women and children and other people inside that bathroom. And that's one of the hardest parts because what was happening in there, you know, what what was he saying to her in there? What was he doing in there? is, you know, and that's a question we'll probably never be able to answer. He's seen coming out of the bathroom at a very fast pace and shortly after she's seen exiting that bathroom at a high rate of speed and she's standing in the middle of the store and she sees him and soon as she sees him, you can see her body tense up. You can see the fear in her eyes when she sees him and she starts back walking backwards, walking backwards and the actual store employee gets in the middle of the two of them and stops him from going any closer. You can see the fear in her in her body. You can see the fear in her reaction to him. So obviously something took place. You know there there's more going on than just that. Got it. Please guys, just one second. I just before before I put in I swear on everything on Please please please sir. Sir, I thank you. I thank you. I thank I just Anything in your pocket? One second. Okay. Nothing. Wait. Um, I think I have I might have a blue like t-u knife like in my pocket. Like it's just like for self. Stand towards the car. Okay. Listen, please stop. This is really [ __ ] scary, man. Okay, listen. As he's going to search you, I'm going to read you your rights. Understood? Can I call my mom? Yeah, give a second. Please let me call my mom. You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can will be used against you in a court of law. You right talk to a lawyer and have him present with you while you're being questioned. cannot afford to hire a lawyer. Won't be appointed to represent you before any questioning if you wish to have one. Understood. Interesting. M81 call 84. Why are there cameras? Like am I that I'm not even like anyone. I'm a nobody. Y'all enjoy this? Do we enjoy doing our job? No. Like one Paul 60 in your car probably. It might be in the car. Am I going to jail? Yes. For how long? What's up to your judge, buddy? Her name's Her name's cuz he was yelling. I haven't made a single statement. I haven't made a single statement. There is nothing wrong. Okay, that's fine. We're going off based off of the statement that he provided. He provided there was an altercation between the two of you guys as you guys were traveling down the roadway. Okay. He said you guys were in argument to the fact that he grabbed you super hard and everything else. That that right there is domestic violence. No, it's not. Yes, it is. No, it's not. No, he's he's mentally unstable. He needs to speak to someone. He's like he gets really emotional. I don't think that it's fair to question him when he's panicking. Okay. Well, he's not panicking right now. He's nice and calm with us. I don't No, he's not. You can't read people. Would you Would you like to give us a statement of what took place then? Yeah. I would like to give a statement. Why don't you give this officer a statement about what took place? We had a verbally aggressive argument. Take the car. And when I get stressed out, I start crying and screaming and I grab myself and I scratch myself. And I've always and I've done it before and even my therapist can account for that. I don't know what he's saying. I don't think it I don't want he has not hurt me and I don't want him and I don't feel unsafe with him. just emotions, just relationship things. Yeah. Grab your phone. He tried to talk to me. He tried to comfort me, but I was still upset. And he grabbed my phone from the bathroom. And I chased after him. And I told the woman who's working there, I told her, "There's a man taking things from me in the bathroom and I can't find him." Okay. And then he came he walked in with my phone and gave it to me in front of the women who worked there. No one had to forcefully take it from him. Okay. And that's understandable. What happened to your throat though? I scratch myself when I'm anxious. Those aren't scratch marks. There's a obvious difference between scratch marks and those marks on your neck. No comment. I want someone else to speak to. Okay. Do you have an ID we can snag from you real quick? No. Okay. Well, he's going to be under arrest for disorderly domestic violence as of right now. No, no, no. Can I come? No. He didn't do anything. He didn't. That's from me. Enough for you guys to cause a disturbance that we had three people call us from this location. I She still doesn't want you say all you want about my mental condition. It's very irresponsible of me. I'm not talking about your Are you able to drive the car that you guys came here in? You're 10 hours away from anywhere. No. No. I want to go to the office with him. He doesn't go to the office. He's not going to jail. No, he's not going to jail. No, he didn't do anything. He didn't do anything. He didn't do anything. I am telling you he didn't do anything. I am telling you he didn't do anything. Something was happening. You're causing a disturbance when you're running through here screaming and you're freaking out telling him to get away from I can't be arrested a disturbance. I'm not telling you you're under arrest. No, I don't want him arrested. That's okay. In Arizona, a domestic violence zero tolerance state. You guys are a couple. You guys are No, we're not. It's not domestic violence. I know you guys came with the Mercedes. It's not domestic violence. I have the Mercedes. It's not domestic violence. I have permission. Okay. I have permission from the vehicle's owner to release the vehicle to you. No. No. If I don't release the vehicle to you, I'm going to have a tow. Okay. Can you please tell me the location you're No. I can't do this. I don't want this. I don't I don't This is not true. This is not true. This is not true. No. This is None of This is true. None of this is true. Can I please get his dad's phone number? Yes, ma'am. Yes, ma'am. This is not like that's not domestic violence. It's No, it's not. I'm telling you, this isn't the end of the world. We just got to We just want to make sure you're safe and this is how we're going to do this. What's going to happen is he's going to spend the night in jail. He's going to see a judge in the morning. If the judge sees that that he thinks it's fit that he can get released on his own recgnissance or off of a bail, he'll be able to be released. He can make a phone call at that point and then he'll tell you or communicate with you about that. Okay. Can I have the address of I think she wrote it right there on the right. Okay. You're in Kingman, Arizona. Okay. I recommend you go to a hotel and take a breath. Okay. No. This is so unfair. You're taking his word. We are. We are. We are taking his word. Please make sure he doesn't hurt himself. He's mentally unstable. He might hurt himself. I really am worried about him. He's going to hurt him. No. I'm coming to you. I'm coming to you. Let's go. Let's go. You know, it's one of those things where we're going to be safe. Um we're going to be safer than sorry. you know, we're not we're not going to allow knowing that they were involved in a domestic incident. We're not going to allow them to just continue. We're not going to allow them continue down the road knowing, oh, you know, it was just a verbal incident. You know, when we have obvious, you know, statements saying that it was more than a verbal incident. You know, he grabbed her her leg, she had marks all over her neck. The way he was reacting with his speed and everything else, there's still more than just a verbal incident. You know, if we do let them drive down the road, then now what are we looking at? Are we looking at a situation where we're going to be looking at a Gabby Patito incident? You know, we have to be better and we have to try even if somebody doesn't want to be protected, if we know there's been a crime committed, we need to take that step and protect the ones that don't always want to be protected.
