on April 23rd 2023 two females were suspected of shoplifting at a store in Roswell New Mexico the officers noticed their vehicle while they were leaving the store and made a traffic stop you're under arrest now for shop notation she's under arrest for the same thing and her warrant the officer explained the reason for the Stop suspecting the women were involved in a theft the driver denied being at the store while the others seemed unsure when the officer asked for identification one suspect showed hers but the other did not have any the officer repeated the suspicion of shoplifting mentioning the description of their vehicle matching the one from the store even though both women denied stealing anything the officer clarified that this didn't mean a crime hadn't occurred the officer radioed to verify the details informing dispatch about the barcode switching issue reported at the store after receiving confirmation the officer decided to detain the women hello I'm off with the r Police Department the reason I'm stopping is do you guys have a little incident at Walmart right now at all no you guys weren't coming from Walmart okay okay do you have your driver's license the reason I'm here is cuz they had a shop looking okay they described a white hatchback shy car kind of what you have oh okay well still nothing okay were you up there at all uh no okay [Applause] 33 cl one can you you have an idea on you ma'am yeah do you have one too I no you don't have one no no okay we don't have nothing to Stell anything okay so you weren't at Walmart at all yeah we were we didn't steal nothing okay well just cuz you didn't steal anything doesn't mean that's not a problem okay hello what's up man hey Damian this off how you doing I got the car I got the girls okay was it the girl in the light the the light blue like dress yeah it was a yeah SPO and a light blue dress and whiteo wearing denim shorts and a black jacket with a red top yeah did they have a third friend with them that's kind of on the larger side no we us they're the only two that we saw in the store they're the only two we saw get the vehicle okay and they they were swapping barcodes and whatnot yeah okay all right um I'll be up there shortly okay I'm going detain these guys right here and I'm going to take them up there I'm going to look at that um the footage okay and then we'll move forward from there all right if you can get all that prepared for me and then uh we'll address it all right sounds good thank you awesome bye take care let me get this driver out can you step out the car for me ma'am for what cuz I'm telling you too step back here for me okay the officer then read the suspects their rights and continued questioning the first suspect aged 19 admitted she had never been in trouble before and stated that she had been with the other woman at the store now she was in a police car where she confessed they had been switching barcodes to reduce the prices of items they selected including clothes and diapers for a baby shower can you put your phone on the car yeah put your hands right back from me real quick am I getting arrested at this point in time you're just detained okay relax relax thank you hang God okay you want me to roll the window down please let's go FR car okay go finish the car for me so I'm going to be straight up with you you got to warn okay let me see your let me see your hands put hands on your back for me so you have warrant okay also we're going to dress this uh Walmart okay all right going get in the watch your there you go all right hang tight all right Amia how old are you 19 19 have you ever been in trouble before no no okay so this is what's going on okay there's an inst going to happen to Walmart okay we're going to talk about it okay going let me explain okay with that being said okay the car cuz I got to take you to Walmart I got to look at this footage to ensure that it's you and what happened okay are you okay with her parking the car right here at one of the parking stalls and waiting until we figure out entirely what what's going on yeah can take it some my park it there for right now we I'll swing back through and let you know what all happens okay so here's what's going on okay I'm going to read you something okay it's for me to talk to you I got to redo this okay you the rights to remain silent having read those rights do you understand your rights understanding your rights you willing to talk to me yeah okay so clearly you're at Walmart right yeah you guys were in there it was just you and can I pay for all the stuff though listen it was you and Tammy right that went in there cuz she stayed in the car right well yeah we all went in there and she went oh she just didn't walk with you guys no huh no okay so you and Tammy kind of walk together within this store yeah y'all are switching barcodes on things yes okay well I I don't even know the items what were the items that you guys were switching clothes clothes trying to just swap the the clothes out for cheaper items yeah were you guys going to pay for the items at the cheaper rate yeah okay but can I pay for all this stuff let me let me so here's what going happen okay I do have to take you to Walmart I have to see the footage that confirm that it is you okay right now I I believe it to be you okay we talked clearly you were there I'm going to look at the footage okay I'm going to with Walmart they do want to press charges okay but if they want to work out some kind of different deal or something like that then that's that's going to be their behalf okay if they they're like I want to press charges then we're going to have to address that how we have to address that okay H is it huh and H with it be jail or a citation okay so I'm going have to talk with Tammy okay I'll get pay for all the stuff okay just hang on okay the second suspect 18 gave a different version of events she stated they were shopping for a baby shower and she denied switching barcodes she explained that the store employee had noticed the pants hadn't been scanned and mentioned the barcode issue she asked about swapping the pants for another pair but the employee radioed someone and they decided to leave without purchasing anything hey how old are you I'm 18 18 okay I just wanted to make sure um sit back for me and then look that way so for sure you have one more you might also have another one so you might have two warrants okay but for sure you have one warrant one's for failure to pay fines and then the other one we don't know yet uh as far as I'm concerned that's the only one I have for wordss cuz uh I had talked to the judge and he said I had a 90day thing I paid the mark and then they called me early April saying that I didn't pay and I told him that I did and then she told me that I would just have to talk to the judge that's what I was waiting on and yeah yeah so you're that one is for to pay fines and then my dispatch is confirming right now to's see if you have a second one out of state police okay so just Aang tight okay so here's what happened okay I'm going to read you something okay so it's for me to be able to talk to you about the stuff that happened at Walmart Okay you have the right to remain silent do you understand your rights yes understand your rights you're willing to speak to me uh yeah okay clearly where guys are at Walmart you and Amilia were in the store together walking around okay were you guys switching barcodes and clothes and stuff um no no okay the officer explained that security footage would determine the truth of the matter if it showed they were indeed attempting to steal charges would follow however the officer suggested that if the store was willing to accept payment for the items the situation might be resolved without criminal charges so if I go look at the video footage it's not going to show that okay so what were you guys doing in the store then um well I have a baby show to right now so we're just going to look for new diap other stuff that I could possibly get to okay and um what happened with Walmart where they're pretty much stopped you guys from taking whatever you guys have um they didn't take anything we were uh going to scan and I guess I don't know what happened something about pants so the lady had said that we had only uh t-shirt scan that we didn't scan the pants so she was like all right well what about the pants and then she was like well this you don't have the bright bar coat on it and she was like and I asked I was like okay well is there like another PA like can we go get another parents it I you knowbly get another attack and she was like uh she radioed someone uh and then we were just like it's okay never mind we're just going to go okay so they okay so here's what's going to happen Okay we're going to take you guys to Walmart okay I got to look at this footage confirm one that it's both you two okay and whether or not you you shoplift it or not okay so if there's no bar switching or anything like that or where what's you're doing is reasonable in nature in terms of trying to scam the stuff then we'll address that okay however if the video does show that you know you're trying to switch tags you're clearly not trying to pay for items okay we're going to have to address that okay all right hang on okay we're going to have to go to Walmart okay now everybody wants to be shopping there like two other ones just came out huh just one one suppos of shop lifting I don't know if it's true or not okay I'm going with you man yeah follow [Music] me he all right hold on let me hop in here and figure out hello I got both of them so cool so she notices label switched with this the ERS are okay she said she was trying to go get stuff for a baby shower that's really what she was talking about Amilia I watched the video I saw the entire thing right one of the suspects offered to pay for the items but the officer clarified that the store would need to make the final decision if the store refused payment criminal charges would proceed the officer also informed the first suspect about two warrants for contempt of court one local and one from out of state you scan you scan two items and then you just start Reaching Across and putting them in the bags okay there you weren't attempting to scan them it's not what it looks like at all okay home girl has makeup and all kinds of stuff in the cart okay you give her a bag she starts putting in that bag never even left the cart to be attempted to scan okay who put the the the different barcodes on the diapers um I'm not sure okay you're not sure yeah it I don't know CU we just grabbing things you're just grabbing things okay yeah there def for um so let for a baby shower yeah okay so let me ask you this okay you have the money to pay for the items yeah but why are we why are we trying to get a fast one on Walmart I don't know like why I don't know it's you see what I'm saying like if you have the money to to take care of your business right is is it worth all this trouble we're in right now you got the cops involved you could have just bought your stuff and been on your way to this baby shower I'm sure that's where you're going to right okay but now we're here and we got the cops involved with something that you could have PID for can I pay for it all now I can pop in there and talk with them if they decline that then then that's going to be their decision okay I'll ask them okay I'll I'll ask them if they they're okay with that they may say no if they say no then we're going to have to go the criminal route here okay so here's what's going to happen okay she's going to jail regardless okay let me pop in your ass if if they're okay with you paying for all the items or not if they are then cool if not then we're going to address it the other way which is the criminal way okay and then that will decide what we're going to do with you okay okay I just want to let you know you do have two warrants for sure so okay one's out of state police for contempt of court and then the other is out of here magistrate court for failure to pays contempt of court so you did something that the judge didn't like or you didn't follow his rules whatever it was okay so I just wanted to kind of keep you upd updated on what's going on all right hang tight so home girl that was in the black not the one in the blue dress the other one she's saying she's more than willing to pay for the items okay that's all I had to ask I had to ask cuz she's like I have the money I'll pay for it I was like no we we we never ever take that okay and that's all I need to know so here's what's going to happen Okay blue dress girl is going to jail for sure she has warrants she's going to go to jail for the shoplifting okay as the investigation continued at the police station the officer decided that the first suspect would be arrested for shoplifting and for the warrants the second suspect would also face shoplifting charges both women were informed they would be taken to jail where a judge would decide their bond and further charges I'm going to take the other one to jail for shoplifting too cool so they're both going to jail for shoplifting all right thank you guys thank you guys for a good description on the car too it was literally like a beam a light over their car it was like Chevy hatchback white and I'm like okay I'm driving down Maine I get to like country club on Main Here Comes This white hatchback dude I'm like a hell turn my lights on flip almost get hit by a random car oh my God I'm like dude what you you doing dude he's I'm sorry like waving like saying he's sorry I'm like come on man all right all right go and step out over to this other car that one over there okay okay I'll go go this way but you got to come on this side you're under arrest now for Sho no okay she's under arrest for the same thing and her warrant okay so you guys are both going to be going to jail to day okay I'm going stop by Britney and let her know about the car stuff like I said I would okay I'll stop by there let her know she can take the car to whever okay we have cour tomorrow you what tomorrow it's Monday you'll see the judge tomorrow okay so the judge decides the bond and all that stuff in terms of when you get out okay do you have have anything in your pockets at all no okay all right hang on okay step up for me walk in all the way face the wall I'm going get one the cups off you keep walking keep walking thank you yep here yep how long are we going to wait here for uh I got to do some paperwork and we got to get some photos and then we'll get out here so if you want to have a wall okay both women were charged with shoplifting and contempt of court they faced criminal charges for attempting to steal items by switching barcodes and failure to pay fines as ordered by the
