On December 31st, 2023, an officer with Florida Fish and Wildlife was on patrol when she stopped a vessel to conduct a resource inspection. How y'all doing, sir? How are you doing? Pretty good. Yeah. I don't think I've ever seen people use Let me double check. Yeah, they don't. So, things are a little different offshore. Okay. Sometimes it doesn't always follow state. So, in state waters, they got to be 12. In federal waters, they got they got nothing. Okay. But you got you got to um you can't cut them up and use them for bait. You cannot you can't every fish whatever has to be landed in whole condition if it's regulated. So like uh pinfish zero regulations right there's no bag there's no size there's no nothing. Okay you can cut those up and use that. Okay if something has a regulation like in federal waters you can have three of those if you cut them up and for use them for bait. You know what I'm saying? There's no there's no way you you Yeah. So what else have you caught in the blues? I just never seen that before. Oh, I mean what we call and weird things. I don't know what they were. Big lion fish. According to the officer's statements, they were in federal waters at the time of this incident. In federal waters, bluefish have no minimum size limit, but they do have a three per person bag limit. In state waters, bluefish must be at least 12 in measured to the fork and have a three per person bag limit. Does she have her driver's license on her, too? You don't? Okay. Is a boat registered to her, though? Cuz it came back. I think it came back as a No, I thought it was someone else. I'll double check. Go ahead and grab that mutton snapper, too. Do you have a Are you out of Florida, though? Ma'am, you you are okay. Fishing license if you want. No, no, no. Anytime. And we're in federal waters. If there's a any kind of Yeah. I have to document everyone on board. What's your first name? Tammy. All right. So, this what I'm going to do. All right. There's a few different ways we can go about this. All right, we're in federal waters. Um, when there's a bag limit that's the same as state waters, I choose which I want which one I want to write. Okay. For a federal violation, each fish is $500. Every single fish is $500. Okay? So, what I'm going to do, I'm not going to write you a federal citation. Okay? I'm going to write you the state statute citation, okay? Which is a it's a misdemeanor, so you'll have to go to court for it. And it's a some somewhere around $273. So that would have been I mean I think I think I counted 16. Yeah, 16. So do the multiplication on that. That would have been But it cost you a pretty penny. Okay. So thank you. It's not the biggest violation, but you guys gota if you're keeping fish, you know, and it's it's one of those things where it's the same bag limit in state waters. You don't have to worry about me keeping them no more. I don't even eat them. So, we'll say um you did you catch three of them at least? Me? Yeah. Yeah. I'm not going to tell you no. I don't know exactly how many at least three of the blues. Well, you can either take full responsibility or she can take partial responsibility. So, if you caught all of the Mun Snapper size limit change went into effect January 1st of 2017. Mutton Snapper currently have a minimum total length requirement of 18 in with a five per person bag limit. Mutton Snapper are part of the 10 per person aggregate bag limit. 15 You got those uh fillets, too? The fillets? Yeah. Let me have those for a minute. I'll give you those back, but just give me for a minute. I can't believe that a fish is It's crazy, man. It really is. Like, that just blew my mind when you said that. It's uh Yeah. They don't they don't play around. Yep. Anymore? No, ma'am. That's it. It's Yeah. I mean, we we ride it for red snapper because, you know, they take that very seriously, but I'm gracious that we can ride in the state water, so I don't want to give you $500 per fish. You said that. It's crazy. It's crazy. 18 19 20. So that's all right. So what I'll let you do, I'll give you the bucket back. You pick the biggest uh six that you want and then give me the rest back. Okay. And then this is for the fire extinguisher. Okay. Sign there not admitting guilt, just saying you will take care of it within 30 days. I give you copies of that. He was charged with possession of undersized bluefish despite being in federal waters where there is no minimum length requirement. He was over the bag limit, but he did not receive a charge for that. He was also charged with possession of undersized mutton snapper and issued a citation for the fire extinguisher. He was adjudicated guilty on both misdemeanor charges and we are currently awaiting court documents from the county for sentencing information.
