Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At 12:42 AM on September 14, 2025, Officer Shane Daly of the Verona Police Department saw a white 2021 Toyota Corolla pass a car in a right-turn lane on Pompton Avenue. The car then headed south on Mount Prospect Avenue. Officer Daly turned on his lights and stopped the driver near Sunset Avenue. He identified the driver as 18-year-old Maricela Siri-Umana. While talking to her, Officer Daly saw two open Cutwater drinks in the car. He thought she might be impaired. Maricela said she drank them three hours earlier. She denied being under the influence. Sergeant Robert Maguire arrived, and the officer asked Maricela to step out for sobriety tests. She first took the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. Then she tried the Walk and Turn test. Maricela failed this one by missing heel-to-toe steps and taking the wrong number of steps. During the One Leg Stand test, she did not lift her foot right or count in order. Officer Daly arrested Maricela for DWI because of her driving, the alcohol in the car, and the test results. Maricela insisted she was not drunk. Police impounded her car for 12 hours under John's Law. Officer Frank O'Neill took her to the Cedar Grove Police Department for processing. At the station, police read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to a breath test. The Alcotest showed a BAC of 0.00%, meaning she was sober. Once processing ended, Maricela's sister signed a liability form and took her home. Sergeant Notte gave Maricela tickets for: Operating under the influence (39:4-50) Reckless driving (39:4-96) Careless driving (39:4-97) Improper turn at a traffic control signal (39:4-115) Open container (39:4-51B) As of December 17, 2025, the case is still pending in Verona Township Municipal Court.
