Prior DUI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bzzHmjNhZsE On June 22, 2024 at approximately 2:43 AM, a Deputy with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office observed a white Infiniti being driven in an erratic manner in the vicinity of McAree Road and Blanchard Road. He activated his emergency lights to initiate a traffic stop, and made contact with a 26-year-old female, who was identified as Vanessa. As he was speaking with Vanessa, he detected the odor of alcohol. Vanessa gave seemingly contradictory accounts about where she was coming from, but she told the Deputy that she was headed to pick up her child after dropping off her other child. Based on his suspicion of impairment, she was asked to exit the vehicle as he initiated his DUI investigation. Vanessa denied consuming any alcohol but admitted to smoking about 10 minutes before operating a motor vehicle. The Deputy asked Vanessa to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. The first exercise was the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test. The second exercise was the Walk and Turn test, which Vanessa hesitated to perform by claiming that her balance was not very good. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, but she refused to perform this test as well. Following the field sobriety exercises, the Deputy offered Vanessa an opportunity to take a Preliminary Breath Test (PBT), but she refused. Based on her erratic driving, the odor of alcohol, her admission to smoking, and her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Vanessa was placed under arrest for driving under the influence. Since her license was already suspended for a prior DUI, the Deputy informed her that she was facing felony charges. After she was handcuffed, Vanessa was placed in the patrol car and her vehicle was towed. The Deputy asked Vanessa if she would submit to a DUI kit at the hospital, but she refused. Vanessa was transported to the Lake County Jail for further processing. She was eventually released from the jail pending her court appearance on June 24, 2024. Vanessa was cited for aggravated DUI (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)), driving under the influence of alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)), possession (720 ILCS 570/402(c) ), possession (720 ILCS 570/402(c)), improper traffic lane usage (625 ILCS 5/11-709(a)), driving under the influence (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)), driving on suspended license (625 ILCS 5/6-303(a)), unlawful use of cannabis/driver (625 ILCS 5/11-502.15(a)), driving under the influence of drug (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(4)), and driving under the combined influence of alcohol and drugs (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(5)). Court records indicate that Vanessa’s case was disposed of in court on September 16, 2023, and she was assessed a total of $1,381 for costs and fees and $425 in fines under 625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2) and a total of $2,215 in costs and fees and $75 in fines under 720 ILCS 570/402(c). As a result of her conviction under 625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2), she was required to spend 15 days in jail, perform 240 hours of public service, abstain from consuming alcohol and controlled substances, and submit to random testing. The other citations were dismissed by the court. Court records indicate that Vanessa has previously been arrested for DUI in Waukegan, Illinois on December 3, 2023. She has a previous arrest for driving with a suspended license in Lake Forest, Illinois on May 16, 2024 as well as another arrest for retail theft in Waukegan, Illinois on May 12, 2024. ------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information).
