EUSTIS, FL - At 2:35AM on November 24th, 2019, Eustis Police responded to a call regarding a man asleep in his vehicle in the middle of an intersection. As police arrived on scene, the suspect was observed hunched over and asleep at the wheel. After waking up the suspect, the man took his foot off the brake pedal and the car began to lurch forward. More officers arrived and searched the suspect for paraphernalia. A pipe was recovered from the suspect's person. Police detained the suspect and placed him into the responding officer's vehicle. A few minutes later, police contacted the suspect in the police cruiser and found that he once again fell asleep. The officer questioned the suspect to the best of his ability, but the suspect was ultimately unable to coherently answer many of his questions. Once EMS arrives, the officers removed the suspect's handcuffs and he was medically evaluated. Upon the completion of the medical evaluation, the suspect was transported to the local hospital in an ambulance. No drug paraphernalia was found in the suspect's vehicle. Ultimately, the suspect was charged with driving under the influence (DUI) and possession of paraphernalia.
