It sat at the southwest corner of E 7th Avenue and N 15th Street. Two traffic signs lay damaged. Their total cost came to $300. Officer Parker saw a driver step out of a gray 2020 Jeep. She turned out to be 24-year-old Callie Belskis. While talking to her, officers spotted signs of impairment. They also smelled alcohol on her breath. First, they checked out the crash. Then, they called Officer James Blanchard for a DUI probe. Callie admitted to downing at least six drinks that night at the RITZ Ybor. Suspicious, they had her do field sobriety tests. Blanchard began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus check. Next came the Walk and Turn. Callie missed heel-to-toe steps. She took the wrong number of steps. She botched the turn too. Last was the One Leg Stand. She failed to lift her foot right. Her counting went off track. The crash damage, impairment clues, alcohol smell, her admission, and poor test results led to her arrest for DUI. Blanchard took her to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. There, she agreed to a breath test. Results showed 0.235% and 0.238% BAC—nearly three times the 0.08% limit. They charged her with DUI causing property damage (316.193(3)(c)(1)).
