#CrimeCamNow On July 25, 2023, Chamblee police officers responded to a reported fraud incident in Chamblee, Georgia. A man was attempting to cash a stolen check for $1,791.When officers arrived, none of the employees at the check-cashing place spoke English. The officers contacted the owner of the establishment, who explained over the phone that they had done a preliminary investigation. According to him, the check appeared to have been stolen during a burglary at a Thai restaurant. The owner then provided the officers with the restaurant’s phone number. Officer called and an employee there confirmed the check was indeed stolen. When officers questioned the suspect about how he obtained the check, his explanations were inconsistent. At first, he claimed he simply found the check on his car. Later, he changed his story, saying he was paid with the check by someone he didn’t know for some work. The suspect was arrested and placed in the back of the police vehicle, where he began crying and pleading with officers for help. He was charged with forgery in the third degree and transported to DeKalb County Jail.
