Please like, comment, and SHARE! 🙏 🔍 Episode Overview: At about 11:20 p.m. on November 23, 2024, Sarasota Police Officer Nicholas Jones was patrolling near 1558 1st Street. He saw a black Toyota Prius backed into a parking space. A woman was asleep in the driver's seat, with the driver's side door open. Officer Jones spoke with her and later identified her as 20-year-old Marta Svirgun. Officer Jones woke Marta by shaking her arm. While speaking with her, he smelled alcohol and noticed that her speech was slurred. Marta said she was coming from work. Officer Jones offered to let her leave the car and call for a ride, but she refused several times. Three other officers soon arrived to assist. Marta was then asked to complete field sobriety exercises. Officer Jones began with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test, but he could not finish because Marta kept moving her head. During the Walk and Turn test, she appeared confused about the difference between her right and left foot and repeatedly failed to follow instructions. After several attempts, the exercises were stopped. Marta was arrested for driving under the influence because she had physical control of the vehicle, showed signs of impairment, smelled of alcohol, and could not properly complete the sobriety exercises. Officer Jones took her to the Sarasota County jail for processing. At the jail, Marta agreed to take a breath test after officers read her the Implied Consent Warning form. The test showed BAC levels of 0.242% and 0.236%, nearly three times Florida's legal limit of 0.08% for drivers over 21.
