On July 11, 2024 at approximately 10:02 PM, Officer Jon Finze with the Wauconda Police Department received a report from Lake Zurich regarding a possibly impaired driver in the vicinity of Route 12 and Route 22. Officer Finze eventually observed a vehicle matching their description approach Route 176 and turn onto Route 176 westbound. He observed the vehicle driving, and saw her nearly strike a curb. He eventually initiated a traffic stop near Brown Street, and the driver pulled into a parking lot near the McDonald’s. The driver was later identified as Amanda Daiello, and she told Officer Finze at one point that she was heading to McDonald’s. Amanda also told Officer Finze that she was heading home after getting dinner with others at Cooper’s Hawk. She admitted to doing a wine tasting as well before going to a restaurant. As he was speaking with Amanda, Officer Finze observed indicators of impairment. Based on his suspicion of impairment, Officer Finze asked Amanda to exit the vehicle and perform field sobriety exercises. Officer Finze started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus (HGN) test and he observed 6/6 indicators of impairment. The next exercise was the Walk and Turn test, and Amanda did not touch heel-to-toe on each step, turned improperly, and took an incorrect number of steps. The final exercise was the One Leg Stand test, and Amanda failed to raise her foot in the proper fashion and put her foot down before the test was complete. Following the field sobriety exercises, Amanda was offered an opportunity to take a PBT, but she refused. Based on the odor of alcohol, her indicators of impairment, her admission to consuming alcohol earlier that day, her inability to adequately perform the field sobriety exercises, Officer Finze placed Amanda under arrest for driving under the influence. She was handcuffed, placed in the patrol car, and transported by Officer Pet to the Wauconda Police Department for further processing. At the Wauconda Police Department, the Warning to Motorist form was read to her and refused to provide breath samples. After she was processed at the station, she was released with the following summonses pending her court appearance: -Driving under the influence - alcohol (625 ILCS 5/11-501(a)(2)) -Improper traffic lane usage (625 ILCS 5/11-709(a)) ------------------------------------- Please LIKE, SUBSCRIBE, and consider supporting this channel (email us for more information).
