Officers Abby St. Andre, Jordan Shellabarger, and Kayla Stalnaker quickly arrived and found the woman asleep in the driver's seat of a 2015 Ford C-Max, which was parked in front of the drive-thru. Officer St. Andre used the strobe light on her flashlight to get her attention. Officer Stalnaker turned off the car, tried the sternum rub to wake her, and gave her Narcan as a precaution. Meanwhile, Officer Shellabarger noticed a smell of alcohol. The woman started to respond after Officer Stalnaker did a sternum rub. A few minutes later, first responders arrived. The medics asked if she had been drinking, and she nodded to say yes. Officer St. Andre told Officer Stalnaker to get the Taco Bell surveillance footage to show that the woman drove there while drunk. They later identified her as 19-year-old Alexis. The medics decided she needed a hospital assessment and, after she agreed, they placed her on a gurney. During this time, Alexis shared with Officer St. Andre that she had drunk four seltzers with her sorority sisters. Before heading to the hospital, Alexis was asked to take a preliminary breath test (PBT). The results showed a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.188%. This level is over double the legal limit of 0.08% for drivers over 21 and more than nine times the legal limit of 0.02% for those under 21. Officer St. Andre parked her car safely. Meanwhile, Officer Stalnaker spoke with a Taco Bell worker who said Alexis had come in around 5:20 AM. This meant Alexis had been at the restaurant for over an hour before the officers arrived. She was taken to Pullman Regional Hospital for evaluation. After the medical staff assessed her, Officer St. Andre had a chance to talk with her. At the hospital, Alexis confessed that she had consumed four or five seltzers the night before. Alexis was asked to participate in some voluntary field sobriety tests, and she agreed. Officer St. Andre began with the horizontal gaze nystagmus (HGN) test. During this test, Officer St. Andre noticed that Alexis had difficulty with smooth eye movement, showed clear nystagmus at the farthest point of her gaze, and exhibited nystagmus before reaching a 45-degree angle. She also noticed vertical nystagmus. Next, they moved on to the Walk and Turn test. During this test, Alexis struggled to walk heel-to-toe, made an improper turn, and relied on her arms to keep balance. The last exercise was the One Leg Stand test. In this test, Alexis placed her foot down twice before finishing and did not count out loud. After finishing the field sobriety tests, Sergeant Alex Gordon arrived at the hospital to take Alexis into custody. He let her know that she was under arrest and drove her back to the Pullman Police Department for processing. At the station, Sergeant Gordon read Alexis her Miranda rights along with the Implied Consent Warning. She agreed to provide breath samples for testing. The breathalyzer showed her blood alcohol concentration (BAC) was 0.141%, the lowest immediate result recorded. Once the breath testing was done, Sergeant Gordon tried to fingerprint her, but the system wasn't working. Alexis received a citation for Driving Under the Influence (RCW 46.61.502) and was released, awaiting her court date. 1:45 I BET ITS DRUGS NOT ALCOHOL!!! 6:10 she does not look 30 24:00 Well, everything seems to have gone very smoothl 26:12 she has a very 'positive emo' vibe about her mysterious 36:35 was for her mid-day mid drive thru Taco Bell nap!
