It really helps us do original reporting like this. 🔍 Episode Overview: At around 1:02 AM on May 9, 2025, Sergeant Dominic Kaiser from the Hanover Township Police was called to a home on Baird Place. Someone reported a woman trying to open a front door. The homeowner said she was wearing black and looked drunk. When the officer arrived, he saw a 2021 Acura RDX speeding away from the scene. The vehicle’s reckless driving prompted Sergeant Kaiser to follow as it headed east on Manchester Drive. The car eventually pulled into a parking lot in Black Brook Park, where the officer stopped it. Kaiser got out and approached the driver, who was identified as 27-year-old Shakira. She matched the description given by the witness. While talking to her, he noticed the smell of alcohol and signs of impairment. Shakira said she was coming from Boonton and admitted to drinking earlier that night. The officer decided to have her step out of the car and do some field sobriety tests because he suspected she was drunk. He started with the Horizontal Gaze Nystagmus test. During this, he saw her eyes struggled to follow smoothly and noticed her right eye had rapid, jerking movements. Next, he asked her to recite the alphabet, but she struggled and couldn’t do it well. Then, he asked her to count from 17 to 35. She lost track and went past 35. The Walk and Turn test revealed she didn’t touch her heel properly and turned the wrong way. Finally, during the One Leg Stand, she didn’t keep her foot raised correctly and stopped early. Based on what the witness saw, her erratic driving, the alcohol smell, her admission to drinking, and her poor performance on the tests, Shakira was placed under arrest. She sat in the back of the patrol car while the officer read her the Standard Statement for Motor Vehicle Operators. She agreed to give breath samples. First, she was taken to the Parsippany Police Department for a Breathalyzer test. The results showed her BAC was 0.21%, almost three times the legal limit of 0.08%. After the test, Shakira was returned to the Hanover Township Police Department for processing. Once paperwork was done, her brother signed a form releasing her into his custody, and he took responsibility for her court date. Shakira received several citations.
