#CrimeCamNow On December 6, 2022, Crystal Lake police officers received multiple 911 calls reporting a vehicle driving erratically in Crystal Lake, Illinois. Officers tracked down the car in a shopping center parking lot, where they found an 18-year-old female driver. Concerned about her condition, they asked her to step out of the vehicle for evaluation. Officers quickly noticed an open container of alcohol inside the car and detected the smell of alcohol on the driver. They informed her that a vehicle search was necessary, but the driver became argumentative, insisting they needed a warrant. When she attempted to get back into the car, officers calmly explained the law, trying to deescalate the situation. However, she continued to resist and was placed in handcuffs. The situation escalated as the driver began crying and screaming. She refused to sit in the police vehicle, further resisting arrest. Officers eventually managed to calm her down, but when they tried to buckle her seatbelt, she resisted again, prompting them to explain that she was under arrest. While inside, officers noticed her reaching for something, which led them to remove her from the vehicle once more, to search again. She continued to scream and resist. Upon searching the car, officers found a half-empty bottle of alcohol. During the transport to jail, the driver began banging her head and screaming. Officers tried to calm her down by explaining that she would be spending the night in jail, but she continued her tirade. She agreed to take a breathalyzer test and registered a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.091—well above the legal limit of 0.08. She was charged with following too closely, improper use of turn signals, improper traffic lane usage, operating an uninsured vehicle, and transporting alcohol as a driver.
