A custody hearing in Pontotoc County, Oklahoma, erupts into a heated confrontation when attorney Rob Hopkins repeatedly challenges Judge Laurie Jackson before being held in contempt and arrested inside the courtroom. Police bodycam footage then captures the aftermath as deputies take Hopkins into custody following the February 5, 2026 confrontation. During the hearing, Hopkins was representing a client who failed to appear while an active warrant was reportedly outstanding. As the disagreement escalated, Hopkins repeatedly argued with the court, accused the judge of treating him differently because he is transgender, and continued challenging the court after being warned about direct contempt. The confrontation eventually results in Judge Jackson ordering Hopkins into custody. Courtroom footage captures deputies attempting to restrain Hopkins as the situation becomes physical, while subsequent bodycam footage documents portions of the arrest and aftermath. On April 27, 2026, the Oklahoma Supreme Court issued an Order of Immediate Interim Suspension, suspending Hopkins from the practice of law. The court ordered him to notify clients of his inability to represent them and formally withdraw from pending cases. The suspension followed an Oklahoma Bar Association application reporting eight pending grievances and allegations that Hopkins had previously been held in direct contempt twice. This case study examines the incident using publicly released police bodycam footage, Courtroom Video, and investigative findings, when available. Analysis and commentary are provided from the perspective of a former federal agent, former law enforcement officer, and digital forensics examiner. Whether you are an aspiring law enforcement officer, a current officer, criminal justice student, attorney, first responder, or simply interested in public safety, these case studies are designed to highlight tactical decision making, officer safety principles, legal considerations, and practical lessons that can be applied to real-world law enforcement encounters. ⚠️ VIEWER DISCRETION ADVISED ⚠️ This video contains real courtroom and police bodycam footage from an arrest that some viewers may find disturbing.
